How I got into public health!

Good morning my lovelies! Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. I have been blogging on an off for few years now. I thought, since I have not shared much about myself with you, why don’t do that. Today, I will tell you the story of how I got into Public Health. It was definitely not my first choice, but I am glad that I am in Public Health.

Growing up, I had a clear plan about my future and what I wanted from life. I had a notebook planning the detail intricate of my future. Why? Isn’t it obvious? I was a control freak, who wanted to control every part of my life. I wanted to be a doctor since I can remember, and I had every goals planned. I wanted to go to college with full scholarship (since my parents couldn’t afford to pay my tuition) and then go to medical school. So simply…but is it?

I almost fulfilled the first part of my goal. I did get 90% scholarship to attend George Washington University. I had full scholarship to other universities but GW was my first choice. In college, not have I learned about the typical educational lessons but some great practical lessons as well. It taught me that live can’t be under my control. I will need to let go of things in order to succeed. Struggling with that gave rise to the beginning of my generalized anxiety disorder (Stay tuned for a separate post about that), which led to so many panic attacks.

My dear lovelies! Each time my life did not go account to my plan, I had a major panic attack. I graduated with honors in Biology, a typical premed major. Little did I know that it will really limit my career choice if I didn’t go to medical school. Well, my dad did tell me to consider other major, but at that time my crazy teenager self thought my dad was against me. To tell you the truth, I had quite a decent MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) school but could have led to acceptance to any in-state schools, but the problem that I faced was that I was a Washington DC resident, and there were no DC in-state medical school. Hence, the competition was already tougher for me.

After graduation, I was put on wait list to medical school and what threw me out. I did not apply for work because my plan was to go to medical school, the fall after my college education. Hence, I was unemployed after graduation. When I applied for job I did not get any job offers because all potential employers believed I will leave either for grad school or other further education.

They were right. Frustrated and angry, I decided to apply for a dual masters and medical school program. One thing I knew at that time is Biology will not take me anywhere. This was the very first time in my life I did not have an answer. I decided to do some research and dig deep and hard into my soul. Those were some very long months. My research led me to realize how much I loved taking this public health course in college. I told myself may be that would be a bonus to have as a background. Well, it will add to my medical degree. Hence, I started to apply to dual MD/MPH programs.

Of course, I heard back from graduate school first. So, I started my Master is Public Health Program in Epidemiology that fall. Boy, this program opened my eyes. While being a full time student again, I was working part time at Children’s National as a research assistant. I worked as a research assistant before but they were all lab job. This was the very first time I was working in clinical research. My work and school made me release how much I liked public health, that looks at the overall big picture. In medicine I would have only been looking at individuals. That was the very first time I realized I did not know what I wanted to do in life. I ended up getting into medical school but by then I realized that medical school after all, was not for me.

Dear lovelies, it was at time I realized that things will happen to us when we are ready for it, not before or after. I graduated with a MPH is epidemiology. I graduated with a full time job offer in my hand to work in clinical research at Children’s National. I graduated and became a full time clinical research professional. I ended up working at Children’s for 10+ years with a second graduate degree for free. I am working in clinical research as an analyst and I could not have asked for me.

What the past decade has taught me is ‘to always live in the moment’. I know it’s very easy to say but very heard to do. Those very words have set me free. I remember when I first started my training in Public Health I used to be addressed as Poop Inspect. I was not taken seriously. Even when I talk about how little we are prepared for an eminent pandemic, all of us public health professionals were laughed at. Now, I am longer called a poop doctor, but at what cost?

My lovelies! I still leave every moment in the moment and l love working in the public health program. I am so glad I have grown from my experience, which has led me to being who I am today. I still have anxiety disorder but have learned to manage it quite easily. Once thing life has taught me is that live in the moment and be happy with the way things are. Well, it could have been worse. I see the world as glass half full and “Miles to go before I sleep, and miles to go before I sleep”.

My dear lovelies! That’s a small glimpse in my life. I would love to hear how you came to be who you are now. Hope will love reading this post as much as I loved writing it.

My Declutter Project

Good Morning my lovelies! Hope you are doing well. Hope you had the chance to visit my new YouTube channel. You didn’t? Well, there’s still time. Do it now. I would love to hear your feedback. I would really appreciate it if you could please subscribe to my channel and like my videos. I really mean it!

Now that part is taken care of today I will take you to a virtual trip with me to declutter. Why is this important you ask? Well, you have know me than one thing you know for sure I am a lazy gurl to do stuff with less effort. Lol…why do I say that about myself? Well that’s true. I like to spend more time in life doing what is important to me, that’s living in the moment. Another thing you should know about me is that I am a shopaholic with generalized anxiety disorder. How does that have to do with declutter? Well, when you are dealing with the above to problem, your life can easily turn to that of a borderline hoarder. That’s exactly what happened to me.

Hence, staying at home has given me the opportunity to do some decluttering. I have a long way to go but at least I have started! The very first place that I have started is the kitchen. Please check out my above video where I showed a glimpse of my decluttering project. First of all storage boxes, shelf organizer, labels, and drawer dividers have been my lifesaver. I have ADD and memory issue (from medicine side effect). Hence, forgetting is a common part of my life. This is where labeling has come in very handy for me.

My mom always tells me, if my head wasn’t attached to my body, I would ave forget it long time ago. This is very true. After organization, I would lose (misplaced may be the more accurate term) very easy, and label made it easier for me to easily locate everything. You see, the clutter started in the first place because I wanted everyone on my sight so that I don’t misplace them and when you know that for everything, things can get out of control easily. That’s why I needed this decluttering project as a cognitive/behavioral therapy.

First of all, keeping like items in boxes can not only make your life easier but can also keep your items organized. mDesign boxes has been my lifesaver when it comes to organizing. My kitchen is full of different types of these boxes.

Next, these airtight food containers are another life saver. Moreover, it comes with the chalkboard label and marker. Beside, they are also stackable, which makes it quite easy to stack them and look organize. Where it’s cookies, flour, cereal, sugar or anything. I have them all in these stackable airtight containers and have them labeled so that they can be identified easily. Now I don’t have to look through items for half an hour everyday. It has made my life so easier.

As I have mentioned earlier, chalkboard labels have been my new BFF. Don’t tell the storage boxes that I did it.All my items are now labelled, thanks to these handy little guys. It makes it so much easier to me to locate items.

Shelf organizer has been my another life saver. As you can see the video It has allowed me to organize my spice jars in a way that is easy to get to. I absolutely love new new organized kitchen.

Howe do you organize your kitchen? Do you have any tips for me? I would love to read your feedbacks.

Target Same Day Delivery Through Shipt – Feedback from My First Use

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you all are doing well. I want to start by requesting you to please subscribe to my YouTube Channel, and like my videos. I hope you all are ding doing well and staying safe. With the advancement in technology, brick and mortar stores are becoming obsolete. I for one, is a big fan of the community brick and mortar stores, but I do have to confess, lately, I have been focusing a lot on online shopping, from buying day-to-day items to fashion items, and even restaurant delivery and grocery services.

One such online grocery service is the Target Same Day Delivery With Shipt. In 2017, target bought the leading tech company on same day delivery service, known as Shipt for a whooping $550 millions cash. What this new service does is you go online to the Target.com website and order items from the same day delivery items. Once you place your order, one of Shipt’s 20,000 shopper will go to the store and pick up the items for you and deliver it to your doorstep. What an amazing concept right? The past few months of the COVID-19 pandemic alone, Target saw a whopping 300% increase in the use of their shipt service.

I for one wanted to see what the hype was about. Since the beginning the pandemic, we all are taking extra precaution to keep us and our loved ones safe. I myself have taken so many steps to keep my vulnerable loved ones safe. Beside frequent hand-washing, social distancing, wearing masks and gloves. I have also started doing a lot of the shopping online. Whether ordering delivery from my local restaurants through various apps. i have also taken steps to buy grocery items online. Today, I will talk about one such service, known as the Target Same Day Delivery With Shipt.

I decided to try the Target Same Day Delivery service because I wanted to use up my Target gift card. I have used online grocery service before, including Amazon and Instacart (reviews to follow soon), and wanted to see for myself, which is the best service for me.

I went to the target website, and chose the items I needed from the Same Day Delivery section around 12:54 in the afternoon. At around 1:59 pm, I received a text from the shopper introducing himself. Around 2:06 pm, I received another text that the shopper has finished shopping and is on his way.

Around 2:54 pm, I received a text that my ordered was delivered and I should take my food inside immediately, I open the door and nothing. I text the shopper did not hear back. I decided to call the Target customer service to get some answers. What happened next, I will never forget. After waiting a long time and back and forth between menus and options, I was finally transferred to the customer service agent. Once, I tried to explain what has happened, I was put on hold for over 30 minutes. However, after patiently waiting the line was transferred back to the main menu. As I went through all the options again to reach the customer service representative, I get disconnected this time after over 30 minutes. With frustration and anger, I text shopper asking about his whereabouts. I finally receive a text back from the shopper around 3:52 pm, saying that he’s on his way. I wait over more minutes and around after 4:30 pm, the shopper finally drops of the items. He was kind enough to apologize for the delay and explained that he had a difficult experience with the previous order.

When I quickly glimpsed through the items, I saw that I have received all of the items. I asked the shopper and he mentioned that he did not find all the item. I go online and see that under order details, it still says that I received those items even though I didn’t. At this point after being beyond frustrated and annoyed I put a reminder on my phone to report issues to the order today.

My dear beautiful lovelies, I have to admit that I am an avid online shopper, but in my years of online shopping, I have never experienced just horrible experience with an online order service. The customer service was horrible at best and very frustrating. I am glad that I have tried this service, because now I know that will never use this service again. Overall, I will give the Target Same Day Delivery with Shipt a 0 star and would not recommend it to anyone. As I have mentioned before, I am trying to add meaningful posts that are true to me and my own opinions. My goal is that you help you make informed decision.

I would love to hear about your experience with the Target Same Day Delivery Service. Have you had a similar or different experience? What same day delivery service would you recommend. Please comment below. Your feedback will help me get better.

Additionally, if you get a chance please follow my Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok page, and like the contents. Hope your days are blessed and kind as ever.

Happy Independence Day America

Good morning my lovelies in the western continents and good evening and happy nights for all my lovelies on the eastern parts of the world. Today is the 244th Independence Day of the this great country of the United States. I am thank you to this beautiful land for giving me a good life and future. I am a Bangladeshi by birth have called the United States my home and country for more than two-third of my life and I am forever grateful for that.

Two hundred and forty-four years ago, 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, an event which eventually led to the formation of the United States. While we celebrate such occasion ask yourselves,”Are we truly Independent?”.

My dear beautiful lovelies! We may be independent from England but we are all entrapped by the shackles of disease, social and racial injustice, health and income inequalities, gun violence. How can we be truly Independence while carrying so much baggage.

My loveliness! I hope still have hope for this wonderful nation. The past few years, we have seen rise in call for changes for the good. Whether it’s the million women march, the Me Too movement, march against gun violence, or rising world-wide protest against racial inequality and injustice, all these movements shows one things: We are all tired of inequality and are ready for change. We are tired of unequal and broken healthcare systems, racial disparities. How many of you have been pulled over by cops for just being who you are. As the great Dr. Martin Luther King said, “

Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream...I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’…I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!”

My dear lovelies! I still believe with those strong words and try to live each day with the aim to fulfill those dreams. All of us who came to this wonderful nation, the land of immigrants, came with those dreams in our eyes. Even though I was fortunate enough to live in the most diverse part of the nation, I still have faced some form of discrimination, whether a boss telling me that I can’t write because English may be my second language, even though I did my schooling in this beautiful nation and am fortunate enough to hold two graduate degrees with honors and several publications under my belt; or stopping my a cop because my car looked suspicious; or even told by many to go back to my country and this country is not more me. Nevertheless, those were nothing compared to all the supports I have received from the beautiful people of this country. I have was fortunate enough to be able to know wonderful and kind police officer on a personal level or even have friends, neighbors, bosses, and co-workers who always have my back.

I still consider myself a fortunate person, whose father worked multiple jobs to provide for his family, and taught us to be a kind human first before anything else. Thanks to all the support, I am where I am and what I do.

My beautiful lovelies, around the world, let us all stand together and declare our independence from all those baggage. May our lives be blessed and truly independent.

Please comments on your experience with any form of injustice or what you think about the current state of this world. Your comments and feedback will help me improve my posts and contents and bring the best of my world to you. Giantex Metal Loft Bed Frame: A Hit or Miss from Amazon

Check out my Youtube review and please subscribe and like!!!

Hi there my lovelies! Hope you had a wonderful Friday. Today we have set up this space saving bed in the our small room to act as an office space and extra bed. I have posted a detail review on my YouTube channel. Please check out the video and subscribe and like my channel so that I can continue to bring the best content to you. This is my first real post on my channel and I would love your support and feedback.

My review is on the Giantex Metal Loft Bed Frame, Twin Size Bunk Bed with Bilateral Ladders, Guardrails, Desk and Bookcase, Space-Saving Loft Bed with Keyboard Tray from Amazon, with the cost of $329.99. Before, I started the review, I want to make a full disclosure that the review is my own opinion. I have not been paid for my review. I bought this bed myself as my latest project of decluttering my tiny hoarded home. I will try to post my reviews of the item that I found in Amazon to help me with my declutter and organize my home.

Assembly: When it comes to assembly, I would say it’s vague at best. The instruction was not clear, and took us few hours to put it together. When trying to install the keyboard tray, the holes did not align properly and we had to drill a new hole to install the tray. I think we probably have burnt over 1200 calories assembling this loft bed with desk. By the time we were finished, we were drenched and very tired to do anything else. The assembly is a total miss

Material: The only good thing about the material is the metal frame. Everything else is quite flimsy. The shelves need more reinforcement to actually hold books together with the shelves bending and falling. The plywood are mediocre at best. My goal has always been to be a thrifty shopper with winning items. The ladder is painful to climb, and this investment was a waste of $329.99.

Storage: The shelves would have been great for storage if they were not flimsy. One good thing is that I can put items in organized storage boxes and place them under the desk as a space-saving and organizing option. However, the built in storage is a bust. I will get it fixed but will have to spend extra for reinforcement.

Overall: Overall, I will give Giantex Metal Loft Bed Frame, Twin Size Bunk Bed with Bilateral Ladders, Guardrails, Desk and Bookcase, Space-Saving Loft Bed with Keyboard Tray, a one star due to vague assembly instruction and the product is difficult to put together. It does not look like it will survive long. I am really hoping its looks are deceiving. The only positive thing I can think of this bed is that it’s quite space saving. That tiny little room looks clean and organized. Now, I can only hope that after adding shelving reinforcement, it will last a long time. Otherwise, the bed is a complete waste of manpower, our times, energy, and money. Overall, this product is a total miss for me.

My dear lovelies!!! I hope I was able to help make a more informed decision if you have been thinking about getting one. If you have or know of a more sturdier option, please comment below. I would love to hear from you and comments.

Wear A Damn Mask

Hi there my lovelies!!! It has been a long delay. Like many of you, I have been dealing with the personal cost of COVID-19 pandemic and and it’s impact on our lives. The past few months I have been going through all the stages of grief all at the same time. I have finally decided to write this post because I believe that it’s more important now more than ever is for all of us to come together and work hand-in-hand to free ourselves from the leash of this unprecedented and deadly virus that have kill over half millions of innocent lives worldwide and over 128,000 in the United States.

By training I am an Epidemiologist. When I was in school, I have never thought that we will have to face something so unprecedented. Actually, Public Health has been sounding the alarm for a long time on how unprepared we are to face a pandemic, and that fear is now a reality. I bet if I poll all the subscribers will find someone who know someone who were infected by or succumbed to COVID-19. Think about it’s not just over 10 million worldwide or over 2.7 millions in US, the virus has impacted the lives of all of us. It has drastically shifted our view of normalcy. Even as a public health person, I have been dealing with the feelings of denial, anger, depression, bargaining, and acceptance all at the same time. I have even gone through a stage of ‘learned helplessness’, with a feeling of powerlessness. Does that sound familiar?

What is COVID-19 virus? What is this new ruthless villain that has invaded our planet? It’s a form of virus that primarily spread between people during close contact, most often via small droplets that are produced by coughing, sneezing, and even talking. The droplets usually fall to the ground or onto surfaces rather than travelling through air over long distances. However, research as of June 2020 has shown that speech-generated droplets may remain airborne for tens of minutes. It’s simple, if we wear mask we can protect each other and our loved ones.

Both of my parents and my sister are high risk individuals. I bet you know too have loved ones who have underlying heart, lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and on so on. Think about them. They are relying on us to keep them safe. My mom has not gotten out of the house in the past few months. She has been dealing with lingering pneumonia, worsening lung conditions. She said cannot rely on her loved ones to protect her, who else can she rely on?

My dear lovelies! It is upon all of us to come together and help eradicate COVID-19. It might be a novel, or new virus, but it’s not unbeatable. If we all follow some basic rules we can stop the spread of the virus and go back to normal. Think about our everyday heroes, our healthcare workers, grocery store workers, delivery people, bus/train operators, who are all making extraordinary sacrifices to keep us safe. We all owe it to them, and our loved ones to just follow some simple guidelines: Wear mask, social distance, wash your hand for 20 seconds often or use a alcohol-based hand sanitizers with greater than 60% ethanol or 70% isopropanol. Clean surfaces often. My friends, together we can crash this sucker.

I know you are tired of hearing this but we cannot lose any more people to this disease. They are someone’s parents, siblings, friends, grandparents, children, partner, spouse. I have lost people to this pandemic and have more family members either in ICU, or in home quarantine. Trust me, I know how scary it is but if we just take some simple steps we can not only defeat this virus but thrive as well.

I would love to hear your thoughts. How are you dealing with the pandemic? Do you know anyone who has become a victim of this virus. Please leave your comments. Remember together we can beat this thing. Nothing can be done alone. Remember the saying, “it’s take a village”?

I leave you with this final thoughts. Happy reading!!!

CAVA Greek Mediterranean Grill

Hi there my lovelies! Hope you are doing well. Today I am writing to talk to you about of my favorite palaces that opened up near my house, known as CAVA Greek Mediterranean Grill.

It is a fast-casual spot that spun off of a more upscale Greek restaurant in Washington, D.C. It delivers the kind of chef-driven culture and clean, high-quality sourcing that you would expect at a sit-down place. My first introduction to this happened in Columbia Heights, DC. It was love at first bite. I have gone to that place many times.

When I completely moved to Gaithersburg MD, I always missed it’s build-a-meal concept of ($7.75 to $8.85) starting with a pita or a choice of healthy bases including brown rice, black lentils, organic arugula or is called “SuperGreens, which is a tasty salad mix of raw kale, arugula, and lettuce.

Their produce is sourced locally, primarily from farms using organic practices. You have a choice of up to three spreads (made fresh daily) like citrusy organic hummus, creamy tzatziki, eggplant and red pepper dip and their addictive “crazy feta,” which is feta whipped with jalapeños. On top of that you can have roasted veggies or braised lamb or beef, spicy lamb meatball, crisp vegan falafel, succulent grass-fed lamb or beef braised with turmeric and coriander and grilled lemon-oregano chicken. All meats are antibiotic- and hormone-free.

Finally end with endless amount of toppings and dressings such as pickled banana peppers, crumbled feta, cauliflower quinoa tabbouleh, tomato crisps, and if you want some sumac radish. As for dressings nothing says yum then lemon herb tahini with sriracha greek yogurt.

At the end of this trip I know you will be coming for more. I thing that that did not empress me is their Strawberry Mint Lime drink. The mint flavor was overpowering and I just had to throw away my drink. My sister who just had a lemonade was not dissatisfied. Between Roti Mediterranean Grill and this one, CAVA by far success in satisfying your taste buds in a healthy way.

What other places do you recommend to people that elevates your tastes buds and yet is healthy. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Niagara Falls, ON CA: Last Day

Hi There My Lovelies! Hope you are doing well. Today I will wrap my review of my trip to Niagara Falls, ON. On the fourth and final day of Niagara Falls, ON.

We decided to ride to the top of the Skylon tower. It is the tallest total entertainment complex with two great dining rooms both overlooking the Falls, The Skylon Tower Summitt Suite Buffet Dining Room and the Skylon Tower Revolving Dining Room.

The Skylon Tower features outside mounted ‘Yellow Bug’ elevators which at the time of the construction were the first of their kind. The elevators run all year round and are a fun route up to the fantastic observatory at the tip top of the Skylon. From the observatory deck you can see the most amazing views.

It was a surreal experience watching. After we took the yellow buggy elevator down we took some more pictures in front of the falls and went back to the hotel for the day.

My dear lovelies! Overall, it was a great trip that I will not forget. Only my guided tour of Toronto was a complete waste of money. Next time I will take a direct flight to Toronto. If you have gone to the Ontario side of Niagara Falls, I would love hear about your experience and any tips you have for me for the future.
