Spreading Positive Thoughts and Kindness

Hi there my lovelies! Hope you all are having a good Sunday. Today, I want to spread happy thoughts. As I am still in the voyage to find my positive self, while at the same time fighting my mind and soul, I am taking the step to finally persevere. However, while I am going through my journeys of ups and some horrible downs, I cannot stop myself from thinking of other wonderful people out there (some of whom you and I may know) who are going through even harder times than me. Hence, my beautiful readers, let us take a moment to send happy and positive thoughts to everyone who may be going through a hard time right now.

Positive thoughts are not enough; when you go out and meet a stranger please have a smile on your face and show a little empathy and kindness towards that person. My beautiful readers, I always believe that smile and kindness are always contagious. When you perform an act of kindness it warms up your heart and it does the same for those who are witnessing the act. Watching someone perform an act of kindness, creates an act of kindness creates a warm fuzzy feeling in our heart. That fuzzy feeling is known as moral elevation. According to Thomas Jefferson, “When any … act of charity or of gratitude, for instance, is presented either to our sight or imagination, we are deeply impressed with its beauty and feel a strong desire in ourselves of doing charitable and grateful acts also”. Even Huffington Post did an article looking at the science behind the contagiousness of kindness.

My beautiful readers, take your time to show kindness and let the kindness spread. Let us take the time to spread happy thoughts to everyone, and let us take time show a little compassion. It does not take the time to say “hi and thank you” with a big smile on your face. The act may be small but its impact is enormous. After all, as John Holmes said, “there is no better exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up”. I took a small step by just holding the hold for someone at the store and smiling and saying thank you for their hard work to the staff member at the mall. The sparkles in their eyes I saw in return is all worth it. I cannot wait to continue my part to spread positivity and kindness. We need it now more than ever. Style of the Day with Faux Fur Vest

Hi There! Happy  Hump Day to all my lovelies! Today I want to talk to you about the style of the day featuring faux fur vest. As you know,  faux fur is the current trend of the season and you will find it everywhere. However, I don’t know if told you this before, I am not much of a trend follower. Growing up, I always liked to stand out in the crowd. I fell in love in faux fur back in the early 2000s when faux fur wasn’t a big trend. I used to wear it as a teenager everywhere and liked standing out in the crowd. I love the chic look it creates and the warmth I get from it as well. Additionally, do doesn’t like the glamorous look created by faux fur style?

The Faux Far Jacket:  I absolutely love this Jacket. I got it from Ann Taylor Loft back in 2006/2007 and fell in love. The quality of the faux fur is amazing. I am always pleased with my purchase from the Loft. There is nothing similar to this available at the Loft, but you can get this Collared Faux Fur Vest from Inc, which is available at Macy’s on sale for $73.99. Like the Loft version, this vest also has a zipper closure and looks beautiful.

The  Baby Soft Sweater: I loved pairing my vest with my favorite baby soft crewneck sweater from French Connection. I got mine from Gilt. You can get the same sweater in Roxy Kiss color from Asos. It’s currently on sale for $55. One thing that I love so much about this sweater is that it’s really soft.

The faux leather pant: I love my faux leather coated slim pant from NYDJ. It’s very soft and huggable and worth every penny. Wear yours with your favorite pair. I also love my Eva Longoria Faux Leather Pants (on sale for $49 at the Limited). l love how breathable and stretchable it is. Most of all, it looks amazing. I am so glad that I did because this beautiful item is currently sold out. You can get a more affordable version at Forever 21 for only $24.50. I actually like the NYDJ version available at Bloomingdales on sale for $110.68.

The Boot: In winter, no style is complete without the perfect pair of boots. I got my boots ages ago from DSW. They go great with the dress. I just love my tan suede boots. It Cosmetics Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer: Worth the Price?


Hi there, my lovelies! I hope you are having a wonderful Tuesday. Today I want to talk about the much hyped about It Cosmetic’s Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer. I was able to try it out for the first time this morning and I will give my first-hand experience of what I thought about the moisturizer.

Description: I first found out about the product from those infomercials. Infomercials usually don’t persuade me to buy something but I went online right away because I am a fan of It Cosmetics and love their products. This moisturizer is supposed to be the first-ever full-coverage moisturizer from It Cosmetics that will let you say bye to your foundation. This moisturizer was clinical shown to improve the look of your skin, even after you take it off. Its anti-aging ingredients will help treat and correct the look of aging skin and transform your skin into a more youthful looking skin. Most of all, its mineral-based SPF 50+ broad-spectrum physical sunscreen will protect and help prevent free-radical damage for a healthier, younger-looking skin. It comes in four different shades: light, medium, tan, and rich.

Verdict: As you can see from the picture, I have raccoon eyes with dark circle and hyperpigmentation along with dark spots. I was surprised how light the moisturizer is. I actually received mine (Described as 100% Authentic) from Ebay for only $39.99. You can get yours from It Cosmetics for $65. This moisturizer does a better job than a lot of the foundations in making my face look flawless. It just took me less than a minute to get the look. However, I still had some dark some though significantly lightened. I will actually give this moisturizer 4 stars just because it does not cover everything, but it does do a very good job. Additionally, it doesn’t last long time. You will have to reapply it to continue the look. You often have to do it with foundation too. Will it replace foundation for everyday use? Definitely. My beautiful readers, I have just found my favorite moisturizer that may just have replaced foundation for me for the most part. I will still use foundation but only in special occasions. I would like to point out that this product comes with a pump. I personally prefer this kind of lovely packaging because you’re able to better control the amount of product that comes out.

If you are like me and don’t like to spend so much time getting your looks in the morning, then get the It Cosmetic’s Bye Bye Foundation Full Coverage Moisturizer, and it will dramatically cut down morning beauty time. Trust me. This stuff delivers on its promise. Get it if not for anything else but as a flawless CC moisturizer with SPF 50+. However, Bye Bye Foundation is not oil-free. It does contain essential oils to hydrate, nourish, and calm the skin. Healthy Greek Chicken Recipe

Hi There my lovelies! Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday afternoon. If you are anything like me, I bet you enjoy delicious homemade recipe, especially if it is delicious. Today, I want to share with one such recipe that my sister came up with and it’s absolutely heavenly. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. It’s quite easy to make as well and is full of flavor.

Ingredients: 

  1. 6 Chicken Breast
  2. 4 Tbs Greek Yogurt
  3. 2 Tbs Garlic powder
  4. 1 Tbs Ginger Powder
  5. 1 large red onion (chopped)
  6. ½ tsp dried basil leaves
  7. ½ tsp parsley
  8. 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
  9. ½ tsp black pepper
  10. Salt to season
  11. 2 Tbs oil (I use extra virgin olive oil, but can try using extra virgin coconut oil as well)
  12. ½ Stick I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter
  13. 1 medium jalapeno chopped
  14. Chopped cilantro chopped
  15. 1 bunch scallion chopped (optional)

Instructions: 

  1. Tenderize the chicken breast with meat blade-tenderizer.
  2. Marinate the chicken overnight in the refrigerator with mixture of yogurt, garlic, ginger, basil, parsley, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper.
  3. Brush olive oil or Pam on baking pan and place the marinated chicken. Add thinly butter and red onion on top of each chicken, and add bake in the oven for 1 ½ to 2 hours at 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Add the juice from the marinate into the chicken as well.
  4. Five minutes before taking your chicken out of the oven, top cilantro, jalapeno, and/or scallion.

Let me know how yours come out. I loved how amazing this Greek yogurt chicken was. We served it with steamed and lightly seasoned beans, mashed potato (made from scratch), and corn on the cob. I want to thank my sister for this lovely recipe. The meat was so juicy and flavorful and most of all delicious!

Fighting My Mind and Soul – Learned Helplessness

Hi There my lovelies! I hope you are having a wonderful day. It was snowing outside this morning and is frigid outside. Hence, I thought today I briefly speak to you regarding something that has really affected me. It is extremely difficult for me I will share my experience with you and I would love to hear your thoughts and how you handle similar situation. The topic of my post is Learned Helplessness.

Before I can explain what I mean by learned helpless, I want to give a brief history of myself. I have a background in Public Health and Research with minor and graduate courses in behavioral science and Psychology. I have also received training in Mindfulness Meditation. I really believe in living in the moment and the idea of mind over body. I have seen the world in the point of view of glass half full. However, the past year I have been in the fight of my life with my mind.

This is one of the reason I had to take a break from blogging. My beautiful readers, when you are constantly in a fight or flight respond, you cannot enjoy day-to-day activities. I thought with my mindful based training I can handle it. However, slowly I tachycardia, rapid heart rate, became worse. I also started to have arrhythmias or abnormal heart rhythm. I saw a cardiologist and he didn’t find any underlying heart condition. My migraine symptoms got worse and I started have multiple auras (both visual – blurry vision, and sensory –  tingling in one limb or a feeling of numbness that travels up your arm over 10 to 20 minutes. The sensation can spread to one side of your face and tongue).

My beautiful readers, the past year has been the worst year of my life and and led to what is known as learned helplessness, a  belief that failure is we can’t change the course of negative event and that failure is inevitable and insurmountable. In my case, the past year I have been living in a very toxic environment, dealing with very hard to deal with people. Being the optimistic person I am, I did not want to give up and thought I would be able to handle the situation. After months, I started to have my symptoms and was unaware of the reason. My years long insomnia that I have learned to control the past 5 to 6 years returned. My family and friends started to notice the change. Towards the end of almost a year I really began to feel burnt out and helpless. I really don’t wish this feeling on anyone.

Finally, after almost a year my family, friends, and physicians have convinced me to seek help. Yes, I have started seeking counseling. I cannot tell you how helpful this has been for me. My beautiful reader. One thing I advice from my own experience, please seek help when your surroundings become overwhelming. Through my work meeting with counselor and my support system, I know that the first step to overcome your stress is to remove your stressor. I have come to terms with my stressor and am working to remove my stressor. Just acknowledging the problem is a great start. My sister is another of my big support system who sat with through many of my meltdowns and showed me that I am not alone. She is my unsung hero. Thanks to the support I’ve received, I am now working hard to remove my stressor.

The year is new and I have a purpose. I am still stressed but I no longer feel helpless. I feel supported. I will be dealing with my extreme stressor but I know that soon it will be over. My beautiful reader, writing to you gives me courage and hope. Every time I read a wonderful blog of yours or share something I love, I feel connected. Thank you for your support and thank you for all the wonderful and thoughtful post of yours. Please keep doing what you do.

Style of the Day with Sweater Jacket

Hi There my Lovelies! Hope you are having a wonderful day. Happy Friday everyone. Today I want go over a very simple style of the day for work for those days when you have to those big meetings. It’s winter now and in fact we just had our first snow of the year today. Specially, during these time of the year I really hate wearing suit for those very important work meetings. Hence, I try to keep it simple and chic with sweater jackets.

Jacket: I got my sweater jacket last from New York and Company and absolutely love it. It is like with faux leather creating a more chic edgy look to the outfit. I got a lot of complements for this sweater. I have also went to interviews and big presentation in Chicago, the Windy city (in November) wearing this sweater. If you don’t like wearing suits all the time but want to the chic look, get your favorite sweater jacket and face your meeting or any presentation with chic confidence. I have added some of my favorite examples to help you get started.

Long Sleeve Turtleneck ($39.50)

Turtleneck: As you know I always love layering, specially during the winter. Whether you layer to achieve a certain look or to just stay warm, it never hurts to have fresh combinations on hand. When I layer, my goal is to achieve both. Depending on the weather , I like my sweater jacket with either a turtleneck or or my favorite mock neck short sleeve blouse.  Whether, it’s turtleneck or just mock neck, I love how it add sophistication to any style.

Pant: You always have to complete your look with the perfect pair of pants. I have gotten my pants from everywhere and Ann Taylor and Loft has by far the perfect pairs. I remember sister first introduced me to Loft pants a decade ago when she worked there a summer during my undergraduate years. I absolutely fell in love with how it fit me. Back then I was very skinny but a curve and both Loft and Ann Taylor knew how to fit my size. I absolutely love the Kate all-season stretch trouser from Ann Taylor, because of its curvy fit.

You know after trying the 12 shades from the Better Together Collection from Too Faced and Kat Von D, I was really disappointed. Hence, I hesitantly ordered Ulta’s metal palette. Boy, I was surprised. You can create a myriad of subtle to dramatic looks. It also includes a full size brush.

Verdict: After receiving the color I was amazed by the color. I love the metallic look that you can create from this palette. With less than $5, I definitely give this palette five stars and I can see why it is out of stock. The colors show through exactly how they are on the pallet, which took some getting used to because a little goes a long ways. It also lasts well. This 12 palette is worth much for than the $4.97 it cost me to get the palette.

NYX Cosmetics – Must Have Eye Glitter Collection

Hi There! How are you? Hope you had another wonderful day. Today, I wanted to take the time to go over a some simple products that I got Ulta that I really loved and want to share with you.

Roll-on Shimmer in Platinum ($3.99): This is a silky formulation glides on smoothly and is easy to blend. There are various colors available, which can be used as eye shadow or as highlighter. The roll-on shimmer easily blend the shimmer powder using a brush or clean fingers.

Verdict: I love this glitter and for less then $4 it’s amazing. It applies easily. Not sticky. Or gluey. I blended it with some regular eyeshadow and a fluffy brush. I use the roll on shimmer over my eyeshadow. It was my perfect New Year look.

Prismatic Eyeshadow in Tin and Rose Dust ($5.99): Thanks to Ipsy, I first got introduced to these cute little eyeshadows. Give your eyes extra sparkle and dimension with a fully pigmented metallic texture with NYX Cosmetics Prismatic Eye Shadow. Most of all it only cost $5.99.

Verdict: So I got a sample of fireball in my Ipsy bag and wow these colors are wonderful and quite pigmented. For less than $6 they are absolutely amazing. The quality reminds me a lot of urban decay eyeshadows but with the insane price tag. I highly recommend these eyeshadow along with the glitter to everyone.

Overall, I am really impressed by NYX cosmetics. You get these wonderful pigmented and blendable eyeshadows without paying high price tags of Urban Decay or Anastasia Beverly Hills. I hope you enjoy this post as much as I loved writing it.

Description: This is a super-limited-edition collection with an interlocking heart eye shadow palette, Kat Von D’s beloved Tattoo Liner, and a full size of Too Faced’s iconic Better Than Sex Mascara. Better Together is a collaboration between makeup icons, Kat Von D and Too Faced Cosmetics. Kat and Jerrod each curated six brand new eye shadows for their respective sides of the palette. Inspired by a BFF heart necklace, the palette has a magnetic center panel, so you can separate the two halves of the palette. Create a look using just one side of the palette, or mix and match shades from both sides.

The Kat Von D Palette is accompanied by the beloved Tattoo Liner. This tattoo liner is a liquid eyeliner with an innovative brush tip for effortless, precise application. The fine brush tip glides across the lashline for incredibly fluid application, allowing you to create a variety of looks with ease.

Finally, finish off the look with  Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara. With each coat, lashes are full, defined, and stretched to unbelievable lengths for 1,944 percent more volume. The collagen-fueled formula and hourglass-shaped brush separate, coat, and curl each lash to voluptuous perfection.

Verdict:  You only get 12 shades but they’re all so creamy and amazing. I love the bold colorful side of Kat Von D is juxtaposed by soft palettes of Too Faced. One of the matte pigment was non-existent, I had to swipe about a dozen times to get any pigment and they were dry and powdery.  As you can see from the swatch  the purple color looks straight up brown. Nonetheless, I did like the shimmer shades. As for the Kat Von D palette, I do liked how pigmented the shades are.

I have always liked the Too Faced mascara because it provides amazing volume. It’s not my favorite mascara. It’s really black and makes my lashes long and voluminous. However, you have you apply a lot of coats to get that looks. As for the liner, it applies smoothly and stays in place all day. The black is dark and rich. However, I like my Maybelline New York Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner, which cost just a fraction ($5.99). Overall, I will give 3 stars to this collection. For $65 I don’t think it’s worth the price to get a 12 shades palette. The full sized mascara and liner together cost $43 and for $22 you are getting a 12 shades eyeshadow palette. Hence, if you already like the mascara and the liner, then with just $22 more you can try the new shadow palette.

Overall, I did not like some of the 12 shades from the Better Together collection. I am not a big fan of this palette or the mascara. The packaging is great and the concept is beautiful but the collection is just not for me. I think that I liked their individual palettes much better.

Happy New Year from Dubai

Hi Lovelies! Happy New Year from the beautiful city of Dubai. You may be thinking I am in Dubai right now. Actually, not really but one year ago to the day I was celebrating New Year from Dubai. I decided to wait till now to share my experience with you. Dubai is a beautiful place to visit and I was only there for a day but I want to share my experience my experience with you, my lovely and wonderful readers.

We left for Dubai on the mid-morning of December 31, 2015 for a close to 9 hours trip. We flew from Dulles International Airport. We flew by Emirates and went by Dubai timeline to celebrate New Year in the plane. At midnight UAE time, the flight attendants came by wearing the New Year hats wishing up Happy New Year. To be honest, this was the very first time in my life, I ushered in the new year above international water. My dear wonderful readers, during my visit to Dubai I have taken the time to take deep breath and take time to observe my surrounding. The result was to enjoy the moments even more and creating lasting memories.

I were in the hotel by 9:00 am. I took a little time to freshen up and relax after the long trip. After that we went to the lobby and booked one of those guide tour to show us around the city. We highly recommend this as it will allow you to enjoy various part of the city with guided tour. Each hotel have various package deal, you have the option from 2 to 6 hours tour and even a desert tour. We visited various part the city including: Burj Khalifa, Burj al-Arab, Dubai Business Central Twin Towers, Emirates Park Towers Hotel & Spa, Jumeirah Emirates Towers HoteI, Dubail Mall, Al-Farooq Mosque, Jumeirah Beach, Atlantis the Palm, Palm Island and so on. I am also glad that we took a guided tour because even on January 1st it was in the mid to upper 90s in there.

Burj Khalifa: Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world, standing tall at 829.8m (2,722ft). A buttressed core structural system is used to support the height of the building, and the cladding system is designed to withstand Dubai’s summer temperatures. I was literally awestruck when I first saw the building ground up. It is humongous.  I tried to take picture of the entire structure from ground up and failed miserably. The building was too tall.  To me, the picture does not do justice.

Dubail Mall: This mall is located at the foot of the Burj Khalifa and stretches across 1.1 million sq/m, it is the world’s largest shopping, entertainment, and leisure destination. There are 1,200 retail outlets, from Armani to Zara, or visit the Dubai Aquarium, children’s theme parks and the Dubai Ice Rink.

Burj al-Arab: It is a luxury hotel. It is a five-star hotel, the highest official ranking. While the hotel is sometimes erroneously described as “the world’s only seven-star hotel”, the hotel management claims to never have done that themselves. It is also the fourth tallest hotel in the world. This beautiful architecture, designed to mimic the sail of a ship, is on an artificial island 280m (920 ft) from the Jumeirah Beach. The building stands tall talk 321m (1,053 ft).

Jumeirah Beach: The glorious Jumeirah Beach lies along Dubai’s coast, providing stretches of soft white sand on which to relax and play. Our tour bus dropped up off their for 20 minutes to enjoy the view of the ocean and take pictures. It was very hot. It was the dry heat that made it hard to stand there. I stood near the water to enjoy the water a bit but the sand was very hot. We took the time enjoy some beach time. I enjoyed every moment of it because I knew that I couldn’t have done that in the east coast on January 1st, with temperature in the 30s.

Al Falrooq Omar Bin Al Khattab Mosque: The mosque is named after Umar bin Al Khattab, a companion of the Prophet Mohammed who became the second Caliph after Abu Bakr and was given the title Al Farooq, meaning someone who distinguished truth from falsehood. It was a very quiet and serene place to visit. I am always fascinated by the European and Islamic architecture. We stopped and spent 10 minutes absorbing the environment and taking picture.  It is a beautiful place to see and the mosque is so beautiful. There are inscription in the walls, which are Ottoman inscriptions inspired by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and had an Andalusian touch.

Atlantis the Palm: Set on the iconic Palm Jumeirah island with views of the Arabian Gulf, this luxurious resort is 14 km from Wild Wadi Water Park and 15 km from Mall of the Emirates. The island is a man-made island in the shape of palm tree. The island consists of a tree trunk, a crown with 16 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that forms an 11 kilometer-long breakwater. The island itself is five kilometers by five kilometers. It adds 78 kilometers to the Dubai coastline.

Gold Souk:  The souk is located in the heart of Dubai’s commercial business district in Deira, in the locality of Al Dhagaya. The souk consists of over 300 retailers that trade almost exclusively in jewelry. One thing that I have learned about buying gold from Dubai, if you really want to buy gold from Dubai from gold souk then you really to haggle to get the best deal.

Dubai Museum: Finally, we ended the trip with visit to the Dubai Museum. It is the main museum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is located in the Al Fahidi Fort. When entering, one can see the fort constructed and the various displays that go along with it. From the fort, there is a path to the galleries, which display the general culture of the land, especially in the 1800s. It includes local antiquities as well as artifacts from African and Asian countries that traded with Dubai. We did not enter the museum but sat outside and enjoyed the outside view.

Overall, I always recommend to use guided tour to visit various places at Dubai. I know one day was not enough to visit Dubai. Next time, we will be there longer and enjoy more. Until then, we really enjoyed our day at Dubai. If you ever get a chance take a stop over at Dubai and take a guide tour of the city. A friend of mine did the same on her way to Australia.
