Apps I Use Everyday

app2

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you are doing and staying safe. How depended are you on your phone? I know for one, I am useless without mine. It not only help me stay organized but also keep my ADHD life going.

Google Calendar:

If you have been following my blog, you know that Google Calendar is my best friend. I have everything written there; from paying bills to requesting prescription refill and taking medication, everything is added in the calendar. Google Calendar is the number one app that I use everyday.

Calm App:

Calm is a daily meditation app that I use everyday to keep me grounded. As I have mentioned in a previous post, Mindful meditation is one technique that I use everyday to cope with ADHD. Calm keeps me grounded and centered. I believe in being in the present, a crucial skill to have for someone living with ADHD, and Calm is an app that helps me with that. The free version of the app is limited. However, in order to get access to all the features of the app, you need access to the premium version, which cost $69.99 per year.

Sudoku App

Another way I cope with ADHD is by training my brain. Training my brain keeps me focused, a skill lacking with people with ADHD. It also fires up my synapses. Hence, Sudoku helps me learn the skill of being focused. I first started doing Sudoku puzzle by hand on the back of my local newspaper. It aided me tremendously to keep me focused within the chaos of college. Now I just use the app everyday.

Fitbit App

IST

It’s very hard for me stay on track when it comes to any routine. Having the fitbit watch and app allows to me to do exactly that, whether to keep moving, or keep track of my hydration, sleep and heart rate. My dear friends! I am a insomniac with ADHD with inappropriate sinus tachycardia, a condition in which an individual’s resting heart rate is abnormally high – greater than 100 beats per minute or rapidly accelerating to over 100 beats per minute without an identifiable cause; although small amounts of exercise, emotional or physical stress are triggering.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WordPress, and YouTube:

Connecting with my lovelies in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WordPress, and YouTube. It keeps me going, and support I receive makes my life easier. You motivate me each and everyday.  Hence, I am sure to use each of these apps to see updates and new post from you my lovelies!

My dear lovelies! What app do you use everyday? What app do you suggest? Please respond in the comment below. Hope you enjoy this app as much as I enjoyed writing it. ADHD: The 7 Things That Helped Me Address the Big Elephant In The Room – To Cope

adhd

Growing up, I always got sidetracked with my mind wondering into la la land, leading to anxiety and panic attacks. However, as I grew into an adult, the issues affected my life and relationships. I often am in meetings when I would find myself doodling on my notebook 📓 instead of writing relevant information. As a public health analyst. I find myself finding it hard to focus on the task at hand instead of wondering into oblivion. Moreover, often I have impulse issues go on shopping spree only to realize how much I have spent and go into a panic mode. My home is a mess and I keep loosing stuff into the clutter.

Yes my lovelies! I am an adult living with ADHD/ADD or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. My life can be a huge mess sometimes, specially when I am stressed, but I have learned some tricks to keep myself into check. I do have relapses but I have learned to keep it at a minimum. I will share those tricks with you. As an adult living with ADHD I often experience the following symptoms:

  1. I am often fidgety and find myself to be impatient and being a Type A person.
  2. I often end the person’s sentences, or interrupt in the middle.
  3. Impulsiveness
  4. Poor planning
  5. Being incoherence when writing even though I may have great ideas.
  6. Problem prioritizing
  7. Extreme emotions
  8. Lose or misplace items.
  9. Being forgetful all the time.
  10. 9911316.png

My beautiful lovelies! My life has not been easy living with ADHD as I also have to deal with generalized anxiety disorder. These two mutually connected issues have affected my life, career, finances, and relationships. People living with ADHD often lives with co-occuring  mental health disorders, such as anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders. For the longest time I was afraid of addressing the elephant in the room and it affect my mind. However, once I have learned to ask for help I have learned through trials and errors to keep myself from getting sidetracked.

    Interaction with Mental Awareness

My dear lovelies! Interactions have not only helped me from getting sidetracked but have also helped me with my relationships. As I mentioned earlier, during meetings I often find myself doodling and loosing focus. Hence, instead of shying away, I ask questions not only to clarify but also reassure my focus and attention. I try to take deep breath to bring be back to the present and became aware of social cues. As a result, when having a conversation I repeat the statement made by my friends and loved ones so that I can ensure that I have paid attention to the conversation but also let the other person know that I have listened.

    Writing Down Everything

One thing I have have learned that because of my ADHD, if I don’t write down everything I often get distracted and my mind will just forget it. I am talking about meetings, deadlines, paying bills, and organizing my finances. I have a task list for work and personal life. I have found that very helpful in keeping me on track. Staying on top of things don’t come easily to me. Hence, I have learned to deal with it my writing it down. Not only have I found it helpful, it has also been a crucial vehicle to help me have some control in my life. It has always been heard for me to stay focused and daily task list along with Google calendar have helped me deal with that. Moreover, physically writing things down makes me take responsibility for that action and help me stay organized. You can find the template that I use to keep me on track to prioritize, have compassion and even follow a routine that works for me. Even when I go on vacation I have a list of things I need to accomplish and have a more complete and satisfying experience. You can buy the template below for $0.50.

Automatically Put Marketing Emails in Spam Folder

My lovelies! As I have mentioned before, not only I easily get sidetracked, and also have impulse issues. This had put me in financial trouble easily, such as spending outside my means. I tend to go on shopping spree when under stress and forget to think about the consequences. Hence, I have set up to automatically unsubscribe from retail and marketing emails and send them to the spam folder. This way I am already eliminating the temptation. It is like removing the small sub stories from the bottom of the news so that I don’t get sidetracked. Furthermore, meditation has allowed me to often take a deep breath before every action to bring be back to the present and keep my impulse under control.

    Labels and Organization

As part of my ADHD I tend to forget things easily and get cluttered mentality and physically. Heck, I will forget my head if it was not attached to my body. As a result, I keep everything labeled and organized, not because I have obsessive compulsive disorder, but also to ensure that I always know where things are. Otherwise, it piles up and let things get lost in the clutter. Even the apps my phone are in labeled folders so that I can easily find them.

    Don’t Leave Anything for Tomorrow

My lovelies! This is a great skills to have because tomorrow is the future and it’s uncertain. Hence, I try not to leave anything for tomorrow. If I have to take care of something. whether paying bills but keep things in place right away. If I leave anything for tomorrow, I’ll either forget about or deal with aggravated symptoms and anxiety due to procrastination.

    Training My Brain 🧠

Doing mind exercises, such a soduku, mind games, puzzles, word games, and cross words puzzle have not only train my mind to stay focused but also keep my brain sharp. Through this exercises, I keep the synapses in my brain keep fired up and keep my brain sharp. Just as our bodies need exercise 💪 to keep them lubricated, the brain/mind exercises keep my mind sharp.

My dear lovelies! These seven things not only have made easy for me not to get sidetracked but also control my impulses and stay organized. If you think you have the symptoms of ADHD don’t diagnose it yourself but let a trained professional help you diagnose it. There are things from the list that may be helpful and some may not work. You have to find what works for you. I have learned the above skills by admitting that I need help and then seek help through trained professional and through family and social support. If you are honest with yourself and your loved ones then you are already in the right track.

My dear lovelies! I would love to hear about your experience and what has/hasn’t worked for you. We are all unique individuals and admitting and being compassionate with ourselves will help us get the support we need. I hope you enjoyed reading this and much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Black Lives Matters

BLM4

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you are doing well and staying safe. Today, I turn on the TV just to see a news of another innocent Black person being shot in the back seven times in front of his three children. What was his fault? He was a good samaritan trying to breaking up a domestic fight between two women. I am talking about Jacob Blake, a man who is now fighting of his life after being shot by two police officers in the back as he entered the driver’s side door of a SUV.  The man’s three children — 3, 5 and 8 — were in the car.

This merciless shooting happened in Kenosha, WI, as demonstrators continue to decry police violence in American cities, including the encounters that killed George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. The night before Blake’s shooting, protests erupted in Lafayette, Louisiana, after police killed a Black man — Trayford Pellerin, 31 — outside a convenience store.

No disrespect to the police officers who are working hard to forge a great relationship with the Black and minority communities, but this has to stop. We are in the 21st century in the first place. As an Asian woman, I have been told to go back to my country and police has yelled at my dad for so called standing too close to her in a line at Starbucks, but this is nothing compared to what the black communities go through each day, with fear of police officers.

BLM2

To be honest, when it came to my interaction with the police, it was mostly positive. Well I know kindest Navy veteran police officer, who walked the roads of my hometown DC and always greeted the people, no matter what race they belonged too. In fact, during one encounter in the metro, he hugged me just to get scared look from bystanders.  I can’t even imagine what Black people go through everyday, mothers fearing of their children every time they live their homes.

What happened to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s I have a dream speech? Even after more than half a century later, peaceful protesters marching for racial justice were tear gassed by law enforcement in front of the White House. Imagine that juxtaposed to the Bloody Sunday of 1965 in Selma, AL when then when then-25-year-old activist John Lewis led over 600 marchers across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama and were brutally attacked.

lewis

A Martin Luther King Jr. quote has been making the rounds on social media since civil unrest erupted from protests all over the country in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder-by-cop last Monday: “A riot is the language of the unheard.” The words of late John Lewis, still rings in my ears:

“Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”

BLM3

My dear beautiful lovelies! We cannot stop now. We cannot stay silence. We need to make some noise and get in good trouble and flooding the voting polls this November and voting in massive numbers. As late Congressman Lewis said,

“Freedom is not a state; it is an act. It is not some enchanted garden perched high on a distant plateau where we can finally sit down and rest. Freedom is the continuous action we all must take, and each generation must do its part to create an even more fair, more just society.”

– From his 2017 memoir, “Across That Bridge: A Vision for Change and the Future of America”

Go online to check your registration status and make sure to make your voice heard this November at the voting booth and through of mail in ballots. I still believe on those words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

king-speech
Black American civil rights leader Martin Luther King (1929 – 1968) addresses crowds during the March On Washington at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC, where he gave his ‘I Have A Dream’ speech.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today…

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day”.

quote 2

Let us work to make this world a better place for our children, so that they don’t have leave home with fear of being brutally killed because of the color of their skin. Let work to MLK, John Lewis, and all the Civil Rights heroes.

May God bless the people of this beautiful world, and make it a safer place for it’s children and where they can grow up without fear of social, racial injustice and equal pay and healthcare will not be considered a privilege.

Things To Do In Washington D.C From a Local

Hi there my beautiful lovelies hope you all are doing well. Growing up in Washington D.C. I have seen so much of it’s beauty and diversity. Today I want to share with you place you should not miss to visit in the nation’s capital. One of the biggest treasure of this beautiful city is it’s vast amount of museums and memorials, which are free to public.

Smithsonian National Zoo:

The National Zoo is within walking distance from where I grew up. It is one of the oldest zoos in the United States. It is part of the Smithsonian Institution and does not charge admission. Founded in 1889, its mission is to “provide engaging experiences with animals and create and share knowledge to save wildlife and habitats”. The best-known residents of the zoo are the giant pandas, but the zoo is also home to birds, great apes, big cats, Asian elephants, insects, amphibians, reptiles, aquatic animals, small mammals and many more. It used to take me all day to cover the entire zoo.

White House

pexels-aaron-kittredge-129112

The most famous residence in the United States is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW in Washington D.C. It is the residence of the president of the United States of America. As I grew up in the city the fences became higher and higher. The White House has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. In 1814, during the War of 1812, the mansion was set ablaze by the British Army in the Burning of Washington, destroying the interior and charring much of the exterior. Reconstruction began almost immediately, and President James Monroe moved into the partially reconstructed Executive Residence in October 1817.  I have so many memories of the White House not only as a D.C. residence but also as a D.C. public school student.

The Washington Monument

20200609_153157

The Washington Monument an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., built to commemorate George Washington, once commander-in-chief of the Continental Army (1775–1784) in the American Revolutionary War and the first President of the United States (1789–1797). Located almost due east of the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial, the monument, made of marble, granite, and bluestone gneiss,is both the world’s tallest predominantly stone structure and the world’s tallest obelisk, standing 554 feet 7 11⁄32 inches or 169.046 m tall according to the U.S. National Geodetic Survey (measured 2013–14) or 555 feet 5 1⁄8 inches (169.294 m) tall according to the National Park Service (measured 1884). It is the tallest monumental column in the world if all are measured above their pedestrian entrances. Overtaking the Cologne Cathedral, it was the tallest structure in the world between 1884 and 1889, after which it was overtaken by the Eiffel Tower in Paris. If you are on the roof of any building in the District of Columbia, you will not miss this magnificent structure. I remember being their every fourth of July for the fireworks.

The Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials

10345556_10102504247529724_6441632106910592132_n10410145_10102504246856074_2072245764502722348_n10446718_10102504246980824_6403460385903168860_n

lincoln

The Lincoln Memorial is an American national memorial built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. It is located on the western end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., across from the Washington Monument. When looking across the Reflection pool in front of the memorial, you can clearly see the Washington Monument standing tall. I still remember the fire work display that ushered into Y2K, how amazing it was to walk all the way home.

The Jefferson Memorial on the other hand is a presidential memorial built in Washington, D.C. between 1939 and 1943 under the sponsorship of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Situated on the Tidal Basin among the Japanese flowering cherry trees, the Jefferson Memorial is the perfect place to experience peak bloom during the Cherry Blossom Festival every year.

The U.S. Capitol

Recognized around the world as a symbol of the United States, the Capitol is the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The huge dome, based on the dome of St. Peter’s in Rome, stands out above all other Washington buildings.

Like Washington itself, the building has grown over the years since the central portion was built between 1793 and 1812. The last addition, in 1958-62, enlarged the main façade where presidents take the oath. On the other side, a marble terrace offers beautiful views over the mall and the city.

Free tours, which can be reserved online, begin at the visitor center on the lower floor, where there is an interesting exhibition on the building’s history. To visit the Senate or House in session, you need to contact your Senator or Representative for a pass; foreign visitors can arrange visits through the visitor center.

Library of Congress

If you are at the Capitol, don’t forget to visit the Library of Congress. It’s the world’s largest library, modeled on the Opera House in Paris. You can visit portions on your own, but free tours disclose even more of its beautiful interior. Displayed here are one of the three surviving complete Gutenberg Bibles, an earlier hand-printed Bible, Thomas Jefferson’s draft of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson’s personal library, and galleries filled with exhibits focusing on topics as varied as the musical careers of the Gershwin brothers and the work of editorial cartoonists and graphic artists.

Smithsonian Museum

One of the best thing about Washington D.C, is that the museums are free. Whether National Art Museum, National Air and Space Museum, National Holocaust Museum, to Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American Indian, Hirshborn Museum, National Museum of African American History and Culture, and National Museum of American History, you will find so much to see.

Beside the Smithsonian Museums, don’t forget to visit Vietnam War, World War II, Martin Luther King, and FDR memorials. There is no limit to the historic monuments and museums in this culturally rich and diverse city.

Finally, visit the local neighborhood, such as my hometown of Adams Morgan, or Georgetown, Navy Yard, Warf, Columbia Heights, downtown, Chinatown, Dupont Circle, or even now the famous Black Lives Matter Plaza. They will give you the front row seat to the city’s rich culture, diversity, shopping, and so many restaurants.

My dear beautiful lovelies! It is my utmost pleasure to give you a virtual tour of my hometown, Washington D.C, and its diverse, and rich culture, whether in its people or the food, you will not be disappointed in Washington D.C.

COVID-19 and Children

COVID-19-Card-3.jpg

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! I hope you all are doing well and staying safe. As a public health person, I constantly try my best to keep me updated about the latest research and findings in public health. That’s why when I saw the latest article by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital on COVID-19 and children, I was really concerned.

download (3)

The article, “Pediatric SARS-CoV-2: Clinical Presentation, Infectivity, and Immune Responses” has been published in the Journal of Pediatrics. The study looked at 192 children between the age of 0 to 22, with an average age of 10.2 years. This is the most comprehensive study of COVID-19 pediatric patients to date.  In this study, 49 children tested positive for COVID-19, and an additional 18 children had late-onset, COVID-19-related illness. The infected children were shown to have a significantly higher level of virus in their airways than hospitalized adults in ICUs for COVID-19 treatment, according to Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Mass General Hospital for Children (MGHfC).

Transmissibility or risk of contagion is greater with a high viral load. And even when children exhibit symptoms typical of COVID-19, like fever, runny nose and cough, they often overlap with common childhood illnesses, including influenza and the common cold. One of the interesting finding from the study is that half of the children with COVID did not have fever. Hence, contact less temperature check as a mean of screening children in school may not be effective.

According to the lead author of the study:

“… the viral loads of these hospitalized patients are significantly lower than a ‘healthy child’ who is walking around with a high SARS-CoV-2 viral load.”

My dear lovelies, the reason I am mentioning this study is due the current debate about the reopening of schools, daycare centers and other locations with a high density of children and close interaction with teachers and staff members. According to Alessio Fasano, director of the Mucosal Immunology and Biology Research Center at MGH and senior author of the manuscript. “During this COVID-19 pandemic, we have mainly screened symptomatic subjects, so we have reached the erroneous conclusion that the vast majority of people infected are adults. However, our results show that kids are not protected against this virus. We should not discount children as potential spreaders for this virus.”

Many-children-with-COVID-19-do-not-have-a-cough-or

Children has higher level of viral load, meaning they are more contagious, regardless of their susceptibility to developing COVID-19 infection. According to Harvard Medical School, As MGHfC pediatricians, both Yonker and Fasano are constantly getting questions from parents about the safe return of their children to school and daycare. They agree that the most critical question is what steps the schools will implement “to keep the kids, teachers, and personnel safe.” Recommendations from their study, which includes 30 co-authors from MGHfC, MGH, HMS, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, include not relying on body temperature or symptom monitoring to identify SARS-CoV-2 infection in the school setting.

pexels-photo-4261251

Additionally, the researchers emphasized the relevance of infection control measures, including social distancing, universal mask use (when implementable), effective hand-washing protocols and a combination of remote and in-person learning. They consider routine and continued screening of all students for COVID infection with timely reporting of the results an imperative part of a safe return-to-school policy.

pexels-photo-4145249

As we debate about school reopening, our leaders should take this study into consideration. This is the most comprehensive study to date. We should all question our state representatives and leaders. Our children are not immune from coronavirus. Just today a six year old child has become the youngest victim of COVID in Florida. Let’s not put any more children and educators’ lives at risk. I urge you to demand your lawmakers to do the right thing. Let do this for the children who don’t have a voice of their own.

The combination of the sponge and the silicone bristles softly cleanse every pore down, while providing a refreshing sensation on the skin. I highly recommend this brush. It cost just $6.50.
