A day in the life of an adult living with ADHD – forever NIJ
ADHD:
Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD is a Mental Health disorder affecting 6% of adults in the United States. Though it’s mostly common among children, adults too are affected by the disorder. I am one of those adults living with ADHD. I have been living with the disease all my life but as an adult, it can be quite difficult since more responsibilities are part of adult life. Additionally, I have insomnia and generalized anxiety disorder. I for one, have to live every day making sure that I am on track and don’t become sidetracked.
A typical day in my life begins around the same time 3:30 a.m. I wake up even earlier sometimes. Being an insomniac can do that sometimes. If I get 4-5 hours of sleep, then that is a very good day. I get ready and check my google calendar to check if I need to take care of something before leaving for work. Google calendar is my best friend. It keeps me on track. If I need to take something to work, it’s in the google calendar. I leave for work before 4:30 am because the roads are more empty during that time. Driving can be very difficult with ADHD. My mind cannot go to la-la land while driving. I make sure to keep my sit upright so that I don’t take too comfortable. I don’t turn on the radio and my both hands are on the wheel. Most of all, my eyes are on the road all the time at all times. I keep talking to myself to keep me alert. I make sure I don’t go over the speed limit. It was hard in the beginning but I know it has become a part of my life. If I have a passenger with me, that person’s job would be to help me stay alert and not get distracted.
When I am at work I have a list with priorities for that day, things to be done, and deadlines for projects. Additionally, I don’t have any other unnecessary browsers open, because before I know it one extra browser becomes 10 extra browsers. Hence, I don’t open any extra browser. My list keeps organized and on track which does not easy for me. My work is important to me and making careless mistakes is not acceptable. Looking through the list and double and triple-checking my works helps. I also take 5 minutes at work to do a guided meditation. Meditation not only helps me to be mindful but also keeps me grounded and be in the present, an important skill to have for someone whose mind often drifts into la-la land. I don’t need to have too much interaction, especially now, which is a blessing in disguise because it can be so exhausting to interact with others and try my best every moment to make sure I don’t speak out of turn or interrupt a conversation. My current communications are mostly in writing, which helps me take a deep breath and keep my thoughts focused and organized.
When I go home, the first thing I do includes at least another 5 minutes of guided meditation. That helps me unwind and relax after stressful days. Face it, trying to keep my interaction professional and working constantly to make sure that my life does not get out of control, is so stressful and exhausting. Guided meditation after work helps me unwind. Moreover, it allows me to have compassion and love for myself. It helps me to recognize my extreme emotions without any judgment and move on. Thanks to guided meditation, now I am more compassionate towards myself than ever before. I only watch the weather in the news because, in the current state of affairs, all other stories are very distracting and exhausting. I have Alexa give me the most important headlines of the day. This is I can be informed about the important news of the day, and fill any gap if needed. I even have a calendar reminder to set aside some times every day for my blog and other social media sites.
Nevertheless, after an exhausting weekend, I leave the weekend to my ADHD run free. This is the time when drifting to la-la land is encouraged not condoned. I called that side my creative side that does not abide by any rules or routine. This can a great tool for painting, and that is how I outlet my free spirit. Without that, I would suffocate and break down. The phrase, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” is true in my life. Thanks to the weekend, I have dedicated times when I am free and can be just me. I roam free full, and not care about any disorganization, and clutter. Everything I do during the two days at the end of the week is to keep my free spirit be free and full of creativity. I may not complete every project I take on, but I know that if nothing, my freedom-loving self is satisfied and will keep me moving. As my favorite poet, Robert Frost said, “And miles to go before I sleep. And miles to go before I sleep.”
In conclusion, ADHD may be a hard mental health diagnosis to live with as an adult, but having that diagnosis has helped me to have more compassion and forgiveness towards me in my life. Additionally, letting my free spirit to roam free, allows me to be more productive at work and be the true and strong version. ADHD is part of me and it helped me to be aware of myself more. It has opened up my creative side and let it roam free, full of compassion and mindful awareness. I may fail at being society’s definition of being normal, but who I am is more open to keeping my creative side free and being able to live life with mindful awareness.
Hi, there my lovelies! Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. Today I want to share with you another poem by my sister, Sarnina. As I have mentioned in the previous posts, my sister and I are both tied by mental health problems. She suffers from depression. Her battle with depression has made it harder for her to open up with others. She uses poetry to express her feeling.
I hope you can connect with my sister through her poem. As you can see in her poem, my sister pours her heart out into her poems. She connects to her feelings through her poems. I love to hear your feedback about her poem.

Hi there my beautiful! Hope you all the doing well and staying safe. 19 years later, when I still think of 9/11 I can never forget the day. A beautiful Tuesday morning when everything changed forever. 9-11 Never forget.
Tuesday, September 11, 2001:
9-11 Never Forget. I still remember that day so clearly. I was a freshman at George Washington University, getting ready to enter my Biology lab class when my mom called me. She told me that a planed has hit the World Trade Center. I did not believe her. I told her to stop joking about things like that and I hung up. When I entered the classroom, I could hear everyone whispering with a cloud of anxiety in their faces. I sat down and asked what was going on. It was at that time I realized that my mom was not joking.
American Airlines Flight 11:
9-11 Never Forget. “So it’s true”, I told myself. Nobody knew at that time what would cause a plane to fly into a told building like that. I was thinking about every possible scenario that would lead a plane to fly into the World Trade Center. Little that I knew that it was a terrorist attack. I did know at the time that it was American Airlines, Flight 11, carrying 81 passengers and 11 crews, which was hijacked mid-air and flew into the north face of the North Tower of the World Trade Center, between floors 93 and 99, at 8:46 am. The aircraft entered the tower intact.
United Airlines Flight 175:
9-11 Never Forget. While in class, at around 9:03 am, United Airlines Flight 175 – carrying 56 passengers and 9 crew members, crashed into the south face of the South Tower of the World Trade Center, between floors 77 and 85. Our lab instructor came in and gave us the news. He asked up to stay calm and he would let us know more once he finds out.
United Airlines Flight 93 and American Airlines Flight 77:
While we continued our lab work, United Airlines Flight 93, with 37 passengers and 7 crew members crashed into the field in Somerset, Pennsylvania at 10:03 am. The flight crashed, during an attempt by the passengers and crew to regain control. Additionally, at 10:37 am, American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the western side of The Pentagon and started a violent fire. We also thought it a sound of a car backfiring.
The Nation Coming Together:
9-11 Never Forget. A few minutes later, our lab director came in and whispered something to our lab instructor. It was then I could see a cloud of fear and concern engulfed out lab instructor and director. Our lab director asked us for our attention and told us that a plane just hit the Pentagon and that the university has been shut down. If we need we can talk to mental health counselor if needed. For those of us who were staying off-campus were told to be safe.
9-11 Never Forget. As I left the building and walked to 21st and I street NW, I could see campus police block all the entrance to the campus. I took out my then big Qualcomm cell phone and tried calling my mom. The lines were busy. I walk over to Pennsylvania Ave, just six blocks from the White House, stores closing, bumper to bumper traffic, and people running in panic. When I asked one of those people who told me that our country was under attack and told me to go home soon.
9-11 Never Forget. Those words and seeing fighter planes in the sky made me panic again. I took out my big cellphone and tried calling my mom. The line was still busy. With anxiety and panic fully setting into my mind, I started running towards home. Unable to find a phone anywhere, I started running a little faster. During those moments of panic, seeing one store open brought a sigh of relief on my face.
9-11 Never Forget. I entered the store and saw an elderly man sitting calmly. When I asked if I could use the phone to call home, the elderly man showed so much empathy that it gave me the strength I needed at that time. I called home and told my mom, I will be home as soon as possible. I walked over to 17th Street and got into a public bus. My luck, the bus broke down and we all had to get out of the bus. I started to walk towards home. The fighter plane flying over my head scared me. When I was just a few blocks from home, I saw my mom and my uncle walking towards me.
9-11 Never Forget. My dear lovelies! I will never forget that day of 9-11. I will not very forget that awful day. I will not forget seeing the smoke from the blazing fire, coming out of the Pentagon, when I went to our apartment roof. 9-11 I will never forget you. I will not forget seeing the North Tower collapsing on TV when I first entered the apartment, and seeing my grandpa, on his wheelchair crying out loud my name.
9-11 Never Forget. That day is sketched my mind forever. It has changed our lives forever. Before that day I would walk through NIH easily. Now, it’s all barricaded with a strong metallic gate. As for the airports, forget about unlocked cockpit door, and not having a marshall in every flight. My friends! 9-11 showed the best and worst of humanity. The humanity and heroism that people showed after the 9-11 attack, Gave us so much home.
The 9/11 Fallen:
My lovelies! Let us never forget the loss of 2,977 people fallen that sunny Tuesday morning. Let also us not forget the 49 heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on flight 93. The bravery of passengers and crew aboard the United Airlines flight from Newark to San Francisco prevented death, heartache, destruction. Heroic Americans stopped terrorists from flying into the Capitol building. Instead, as they fought for control, the plane crashed into a field near rural Shanksville, PA.
Lesson Learned:
My dear lovelies! 9-11 have taken the lives of 2,977 Americans. The COVID-19 has taken the lives of 191,803 Americans. Let us all come together and humanity and heroism needed to defeat our current invisible enemy, COVID-19. Let us all wear a mask, social distance, and do our part to keep us and our vulnerable family members safe and protected. One thing we have seen from 9-11, the worst terrorist attack in US history, is that when people come together, we can do anything and defeat any enemies.
I would love to know where you were on September 11, 2001. What were you doing? How did you go through that tragic day?

Hi, there my loveliness! I hope you are doing well and staying safe. Today I want to talk about my continued long battle with an androgenic journey with alopecia and where I am today. If you have been following my blog, you already know that in 2017, I was diagnosed with androgenic alopecia. It’s a pattern of hair loss that affects both men and women.
In women, the hair becomes thin all over the place, and the hairline does not recede. This condition in women rarely leads to total baldness. Never did I thought that I will have androgenic alopecia. I have received overwhelming response and support. Hence, I wanted to update you about my journey three years later.
Beginning of my long battle with alopecia
Growing up in a society where women’s hair is part of my beauty, sudden loss of hair was a sudden psychological shock to me. I was depressed. I did not want to talk to anyone. I was hiding my head. I remember taking the above picture reviewing a picture. Even then, I had a head full of hair.
However, suddenly in September last year, I started to lose my hair like crazy. I have my typical hair loss each day but this was drastic. I started photographing it. Within a month I lost two-thirds of my hair. I didn’t know what to do I went to my dermatologist who did a biopsy and diagnosed me with androgenic alopecia. She told me that there is no cure for this disease when using combination treatment, I will get some but not all of my hair back. Typical treatments for this condition include.
Rogaine or Minoxidilwas approved by the US Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of androgenic alopecia. The study is currently being marketed over the counter as 2% and 5% solution, with 5% being solution being more effective.
In addition, oral treatment such as Finasteride, or Spironolactone is so prescribed alongside rogaine. Finasteride is prescribed only in men because it can produce ambiguous genitalia in a developing male fetus. Since Spironolactone is an antiandrogen, it can cause the feminization of male fetuses. Hence it should not be taken during pregnancy.
I was in emotional pain. I was put on Rogaine, antiandrogen, an antifungal shampoo, ketoconazole 2%, which has shown to effectively treat in regrowth hair. My dear friends, at this point I was desperate to do anything. I was doing research on any treatment. My dermatologist saw how depressed I became. She told me that can lead to more hair loss.
She also mentioned to me that I should also look into buying a laser helmet, which has shown to regrow hair by 43%. Based on my doctor’s recommendations, I bought irestore. This FDA-cleared, low-level laser therapy is a clinically proven way to stimulate hair follicles to grow thicker and fuller hair. It uses clinical-strength laser technology to treat balding, thinning hair, and receding hairline. I use it for 25 minutes every other day.
During my long battle, I was along taking hair vitamin with 5000mg every day. I had been following these treatment regimens for a while. I have seen some improvements for sure after 3 to four months. I never thought I will have to deal with this before the mid-30s and definitely did not expect such a long battle with alopecia.
Where I am Today After 3 Years:
My lovely readers! I have gone a rough patch, and have come a long way. During the long battle with alopecia the past three years, I have switched from Rogaine to my mom’s natural recipe of onion juice, organic coconut, avocado, castor, and almond oils (used weekly). I still take Spironolactone and Vitamin with Biotin and B12 every day. I no longer use my mom’s recipe and use irestore once a week, though I plan to make it more regularly now.
My dear lovelies! I have gained half of my hair back and don’t have any bald spots. My hair is no longer my cause of depression. I have learned to accept the improvement I have gracefully. At least I am 50% better than I was before. I am okay with that. I will take my current hair over large bald spots and very little hair anytime. I feel beautiful again.
It’s amazing how appears can do things to our mind. I guess I am part of the norm. One thing I have learned that it a great thing to feel beautiful what we feel about ourselves can have a strong effect on our mental status. I longer feel ashamed of my hair. To be honest, I think I have grown a lot as a person. Though I would not go back to my balding self, I will not treat me the same way as I did when I first was diagnosed with alopecia. Thanks to mindful based meditation I have learned to accept and appreciate myself. I have learned to be more compassionate towards myself.
My beautiful lovelies! Have any of experienced what I have or know someone? I would love to hear your story and what treatment has worked for you or your friend.
Hope you enjoy this post and as much as I love writing it. Don’t forget to check out my Facebook Page and follow me on Instagram @forevernij. Are you on Bloglovin? Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. Today I will share with you my latest beauty finds at Mac Cosmetics. I love the products from Mac Cosmetics.
To be honest, when I first started buying makeup products years ago, I first started at Mac Cosmetics. I love their products but it was hard for a novice makeup person to find her way through Mac. It was hard for me to navigate through the vast collection at Mac. The only item I absolutely loved is their lipsticks. At Sephora, I had someone color match the products to my skin tone, and learn the basics of makeup and beauty products. Once I learned about my skin tone and type along with my products suited to my skin tone and type, I was able to use that to buy more beauty products at Mac Cosmetics.
After a long time, I finally did a small shopping spree (with cash of course) at Mac Cosmetics. I got the following items: Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, Mac Studio Fix Perfecting Powder, Powder Kiss Liquid LipColour in Got A Callback, and Powder Kiss Liquid LipColour in Over The Taupe.
It is a one-step pressed powder and foundation that gives skin a 12-hour ultra-matte finish while controlling shine and without causing acne. It does not look cakey at all. I give a light no-makeup makeup look. This foundation gives skin a smooth and even ultra-matte finish with medium-to-full buildable coverage, with a velvety texture that allows the skin to breathe. M∙A∙C Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation is long-wearing, color-true, non-caking, non-streaking, and non-settling – all for 12 hours.
A pro-quality, refined loose powder to set makeup with a matte finish. Infused with nourishing ingredients, it wears comfortably without feeling drying. With sheer coverage, M∙A∙C Studio Fix Perfecting Powder is a universal makeup must for beginners and buffs alike.
This is a liquid lipcolour with a whipped, mousse-like texture that delivers soft-focus moisture-matte, comfortable color with ten hours of hydration. I love the way the color looks on my skin tone. The special blend of vitamin E, powders, and emollient properties provides excellent cushion, flexibility, wear, and moisture that will leave lips looking and feeling soft and smooth all day.
This is a nude tone. I love the color. I love wearing nude colors at work on a regular basis. I again love the way it looks on my skin tone. and the soft, hydrating, and yet matte lip color.
Verdict: Overall, I love each of the products that I got at Mac. Through items, Mac does live up to its reputation as a provider of quality beauty products. While trying these items, I went back to my regular trip to the Mac Store in Union Station in Washington D.C. I love the interactions, the quality you never get online.
My dear lovelies! I hope you enjoy the post as much as I loved sharing it. Please let me know about your favorite products at Mac Cosmetics.

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you are doing well and staying safe. This post is for all my lovelies with newborn. Fourteen percent of mothers suffer from abdominal separation or diastasis recti. Today, i will share with you a exercise that I found in NPR to lose 2 inches of your waist in just three weeks with just 10 minutes exercise a day.
All you have to do is sit on the floor cross legged. Relax the shoulders. We will do this with a sense of compassion towards ourselves without any form of judgement. Put your hands on your belly. Once ready take a deep breath as you inhale let the belly fully expand. Now as you exhale, suck your belly buttons back as far as you can, all the way back to the spine. Now hold in this position. While in this position, take little tiny breaths, and when exhale during the tiny breaths, you squeeze your tummy tighter and tighter. With each tiny breath, pull your belly buttons back as further and further into the spine. Very small, very intense, very tight squeeze. Do this for ten minutes.
Do this ten minutes exercise everyday, and watch your waste get two inches smaller in three weeks.

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you all are doing well and staying safe. Today, I will share with you the only technique that has helped me with insomnia without any medications with any side effects or expensive items. This technique is known as Yoga Nidra.
Yoga Nidra slows the wavelengths in your mind as you slowly enter a sleep-like state. The experience often begins with sensing the body and mindfully breathing to start the relaxation response in your body. This response balances both your left and right brain, plus the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, in preparation for a yogic sleep.
In addition, as your mind begins to quiet, you’ll slowly start to recognize that your thoughts are simply thoughts as they come and go. As a result, you develop a deeper awareness of yourself in this resting state. You will also learn to integrate this sense of mindfulness into your everyday life. Research on the overall benefits of yoga and yoga Nidra has revealed improvements in emotional self-regulation—with reduced levels of depression, stress, and anxiety—and an increase in mood, quality of life, and well-being.
Hope this helps you relax your mind and help you enter a sleep-like state full of sweet dreams and calm relaxation. I will end with a quote by Rumi, “Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built.”
