Weight Loss: Slow and Steady Wins The Race Part Three

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today I will continue to talk to you about my weight loss journey with part three. Hope you enjoy the post.

The focus on Good Carb:

For a long time, I heard about a low-carb diet for weight loss. I just couldn’t get aboard on this fad. I know that would not be able to do that diet. Hence, I instead focused on eating good and healthy carbohydrates. Imagine this: you can lose weight, get healthier and stronger, and feel better—all while still eating carbs. Yes, it’s true. You can lose weight if you just shift your diet from processed to good and healthy carbs. Before knowing about good carbs, let first find out about carbs in general. There are three types of carbohydrates: simple, complex, and fibers.

Simple Carbohydrates:

Simple carbs are simply sugar. They can be found naturally in fruits and vegetables but also in refined grains and processed foods through “added sugar” as in refined (processed) grains, cakes, and other baked goods. Due to the simple and refined nature of this carb, burn up fast, spiking your blood sugar and causing it to crash. This can leave you with a craving for more carbs and can also lead to weight gain long term.

Complex Carbohydrates:

Complex carbs are made up of long chains of sugar molecules. They are simply starches. These carbohydrates keep you full for longer because they take more time for your body to digest and break down for energy. These carbs are also known as healthy carbs. The key to hacking your weight-loss plan is to limit your intake of simple carbohydrates and nourish your body with complex carbohydrates. Complex carbs take longer for your body to break down, which means you’ll spend more energy to burn these than simple sugars.

Examples of complex carbohydrates include:

  • Whole grain foods like quinoa, barley, brown rice, and oats
  • Whole-grain, processed products like bread, pasta, cereal, and crackers
  • Legumes like lentils, chickpeas, kidney beans, green peas, and split peas
  • Other starchy vegetables like potatoes, sweet potatoes, and corn

Fibers:

Dietary fiber is a long chain of sugar molecules, just like complex carbs, but it’s indigestible—meaning, your body can’t break it down to use for energy. Instead, dietary fiber helps provide bulk to keep your digestion system running as well as help you to feel full. You’ll often find fiber in the same foods that contain complex carbs.

A study published in Annals of Internal Medicine suggests that something as simple as aiming to eat 30 grams of fiber each day can help you lose weight, lower your blood pressure, and improve your body’s response to insulin just as effectively as a more complicated diet. According to Harvard, “In addition to weight control, higher fiber diets can also help to prevent type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease,” says Dr. Frank Hu, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. But, he cautioned, it’s best to get fiber from food, not from supplements.

Adding fiber to your diet can be easy and delicious. A high-fiber cereal or oatmeal with berries on top is a great way to start the day. For lunch, enjoy a salad sprinkled with chickpeas or kidney beans and some nuts (almonds, peanuts, walnuts, or pecans). Make a stir-fry for dinner using a variety of vegetables, and top with pumpkin or sunflower seeds.

Hence, I make sure that with a high protein breakfast and stress control, I also add complex carbs with high fiber in my diet. This includes brown rice, beans, legumes, peas, quinoa, and avocado. I still eat pasta but just opt for whole-grain pasta. My friends just by making these three changes to my diet (high protein, stress reduction, and complex carbs), I have lost 12 pounds so far. I know I still have a long way to go to lose the 26 pounds I have gained but I feel more energized and less tired than before.

WeightLoss: Slow and Steady Wins The Race Part Two

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today I want to continue with the second part of the weightloss topic from yesterday.

Stress and Weight:

stress handwritten text on white printer paper
Photo by Pedro Figueras on Pexels.com

As I have mentioned to you yesterday, after gaining 26 pounds in a year, I was very much stressed about my weight. As someone who believes and practices mindfulness based meditation I knew that stress will not help me with weightloss just as it does not help me with my alopecia. Mental stress (either in or not in association with impaired sleep) may play a key role in poor sleep, enhanced appetite, cravings and decreased motivation for physical activity. All these factors contribute to weight gain and obesity, possibly via decreasing the efficacy of weightloss interventions. Studies have shown that factors that may pose a risk for weight regain include a history of weight cycling, disinhibited eating, binge eating, more hunger, eating in response to negative emotions and stress, and more passive reactions to problems. Additionally, stress is an important factor in the development of addiction and in addiction relapse, and may contribute to an increased risk for obesity and other metabolic diseases. Furthermore, traumatic stress has pronounced effect on food consumption during the rodent’s active phase, and a prolonged effect on body weight

Studies have shown that stress and other negative emotions, such as depression and anxiety, can lead to both decreased and increased food intake. An increasing number of prospective studies have shown that emotional eating predicts subsequent weight gain in adults. Moreover, studies highlighting the relevance of night sleep duration by showing that adults with a combination of shorter sleep and higher emotional eating may be especially vulnerable to weight gain. Emotional eating (i.e. eating in response to negative emotions) has been suggested to be one mechanism linking depression and subsequent development of obesity. Adults with a combination of shorter night sleep duration and higher emotional eating may be particularly vulnerable to weight gain. Another study, confirm a modest weight gain over the first year at university, which was associated with higher levels of perceived stress in women.

Reduce Stress:

Hence, I took the initiative to reduce stress on top of high-protein breakfast. On top of this, my painting helped keep stress at bay. Addtionally, I started practicing mindful eating. We often eat mindlessly and as a result we don’t allow our brain to register that we are full. This in turn lead us to eat more. If you eat too fast, the fullness signal may not arrive until you have already eaten too much. This is very common in binge eating.

Mindful eating is based on mindfulness, a Buddhist concept. Mindful eating is about using mindfulness to reach a state of full attention to your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when eating. Mindful eating helps you distinguish between emotional and physical hunger. It also increases your awareness of food-related triggers and gives you the freedom to choose your response to them. Mindful eating may aid weight loss by changing eating behaviors and reducing the stress associated with eating. In addition, mindful eating can also help prevent binge eating. It can both reduce the frequency of binges and the severity of each binge. It takes pracetice. In order to practice mindful eating try to eat more slowly, chew thoroughly, remove distractions, and stop eating when you’re full.

Weight Loss – Slow and Steady Win the Race Part One

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. You have gained weight after the pandemic? You are not alone. According to the Harvard Health website, an examination of patient data from electronic health records showed that “39% of patients gained weight during the pandemic, with weight gain defined as above the normal fluctuation of 2.5 pounds. Approximately 27% gained less than 12.5 pounds and about 10% gained more than 12.5 pounds, with 2% gaining over 27.5 pounds”. Today, I will share with you part one of my weight loss journey.

I was fortunate enough not to experience freshman 15, mostly because I was severely underweight. However, I wasn’t so lucky this time around. This may be because I am much older now with a much slower metabolism rate. On top of that, I am dealing with chronic health conditions which put on steroid treatment several times. The weight gain was not pretty on my clothing and my mind. For some reason, even with my love of mindful meditation, I just couldn’t deal with the 26 pounds weight gain. If the stress of the pandemic and loss of loved ones weren’t enough, I started dealing with added weight that I was feeling day-to-day.

The Weight Loss Journey

apple norms size standards

My friends, I have to say that the journey was not easy. At first, I was checking my weight every day, only to make me stress out even more. I started out with light exercise. That would have been easy if I didn’t have exercise intolerance. Hence, I started counting calories and cutting carbs. That did not last long. If I lost 3 pounds, the next week I gained 2 back. As a science person I know that when it comes to weight loss, one shoe does not fit all. I tried the Weight Watcher point system, it does not work. Finally, I decided to do some research for other effective options.

High Protein Breakfast for Weight Loss

One thing that I came across that caught my attention is the use of a high-protein breakfast for weight loss. Weight what? Yes, high-protein breakfast. I started doing some research. A high-protein diet may decrease food intake through regulating satiety and appetite hormones and can be an effective strategy for weight loss. A study looking at Chinese adolescents found that a high-protein breakfast promotes weight loss in obese Chinese adolescents, possibly through its regulation of satiety, subsequent food intake, and appetite hormones. Similarly, acute studies show that the addition of whey protein at breakfast has a glucose-lowering effect through increased incretin and insulin secretion. Whey protein-based breakfast is an important adjuvant in the management of Type 2 diabetes. However, keeping in mind that there is no single best strategy for weight management, I tried this out. I took a protein drink every day followed by frequent small meals. I started to lose weight but very slowly. A month ago I decided to add a weight watcher protein bar on top of my protein drink as my breakfast.

scrabble pieces on a plate
Photo by Total Shape on Pexels.com

My friends, do keep in mind that months of just protein drink helped me shed 6 pounds. However, it was not steady. Hence, after adding the protein bar with the protein drink I was able to shed another 6 pounds in the past month, with no exercise on top of being on steroid treatment. I don’t give the entire credit to a high protein diet, but it helped a lot. I still follow the motto, everything in moderation. Weight watchers point system may not have helped me this time, however, the moto behind them, “Calories give it the baseline; saturated fat and sugar drive the SmartPoints value up, while protein drives it down. The reason for this is that numerous studies have confirmed the benefits of eating less sugar and saturated fat, and more protein—not just for weight loss, but all sorts of other health reasons”.

My dear lovelies! Please come back tomorrow on the 2nd part of my weight loss journey. If you are going through a weight loss journey, I would love to hear your stories. What worked for you and what didn’t.

Five Surprising Ways To Save In Your Rising Grocery Cost

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today I want to talk to you about ways to save on your grocery bill.

Rising Cost of Grocery

The cost of meat, rice, cereal, tomatoes, salad dressings is all risen. US Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 0.04% increase in price from August 2021. Over the past year, grocery prices are up 2.6%. The largest price hikes are in meat, poultry, fish, and eggs, which increased 8%. Beef rose 12.2% over the year. The only group that saw any decline is dairy. According to Wells Fargo, series of the most unfortunate events are responsible for the big hike in grocery bills even before the pandemic. An unusually wet season in 2019 impacted crops, decreasing production in grains, soybeans, and corn. Add in a global pandemic, labor shortages, and supply issues, you got a basket full of reasons for those high prices. While consumers can’t do anything about those rising prices, we can make some changes to our habits.

1. Shop Local

person giving fruit to another
Photo by Erik Scheel on Pexels.com

Farmer’s market cut out the middleman, so prices are generally cheaper than a grocery store. Additionally, buying local can also provide an economic boost to your community. In fact, the New Economics Foundation found that when people buy local, twice the amount of money stays in the community compared to areas where people bought more imported and out-of-state goods. One that I have noticed is that every single Farmer or offers produce that’s far superior to the grocery stores but is only about half the price.

2. Use In-Store App

food sunset man person

Download the store app that allows you to scan and brag your groceries while you shop. It keeps a running total to keep you on budget. While there are a variety of apps you can use to save money on groceries, most work one of two ways. They either track your store loyalty card and offer point-of-sale savings by the specific retailer, or they require you to add offers and then upload a photo of your receipt.

3. Sign Up for Loyalty Program

To get discounts and rewards. The first thing I do is sign up for the loyalty programs and after spending a certain amount, I get a $20 gift certificate. Even supermarkets like Giants and Safeway provide loyalty programs, which not only help you save money every week but also accumulate points to save money on your fuel cost.

4. Buy Generic/Store Brand

Today Show

Name brand isn’t always better. In fact, most of the time it’s exactly the same as the generic brand. Many generic and name-brand products are produced right in the same factory. It’s just that the packaging and stickers on them are different. I especially buy my vitamins and over-the-counter drugs in generic and store-brand which makes a huge difference in the price. Whether, you are getting OTC medicines, pasta, or condiments generic brands will save you more money.

5. Buy Dry Products in Bulk

Today.com

Whether, it’s pasta, bath tissue, or other products, you can save money buying them in bulk. However, the prices are generally marked up. You can still shop for groceries online though when it comes to dry products, like pasta and canned goods. On sites like Amazon and Walmart, you can buy these in bulk at much lower prices, especially if they’re on sale. And as a bonus, you don’t have to go to the store to lug them back. I always buy protein drinks, shampoo, canned goods in bulk from Amazon, Walmart, and Boxed when they are on sale.

My dear beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys this post helpful. I would love to know your tips to save money on groceries. I look forward to reading your comments and feedback.

The salt content in Ketchup can draw out some of the inflammation of insect bites. So dab a bit on the bites!  It also works for soothing other types of insect bites like those from bees and spiders. It won’t stop the swelling but it will fight the itchiness and soreness, and keep it from getting out of control.

3. Bring Shine To Copper and Silverware

Due to its acetic acid content, ketchup is a surprisingly good item to use to shine copper and silverware. Massaging a little tomato sauce around the metal items will take them from dull-looking to sparkling like new. It will literally dissolve away years of tarnish in seconds. Just don’t leave it on too long as it could begin to damage the metal.

4. Repair Blonde

For blonde hair that has gone green from chlorine or saltwater, shampoo your hair as normal, then rinse tomato ketchup through your hair and leave it on for about 5 minutes. Wash it out thoroughly. Shampoo and condition as normal.

5. Remove Rust Off Furniture

The natural acids of ketchup will neutralize the rust. Rub ketchup on the furniture frame. When the rust becomes like powder, rinse it off with water. Ketchup will easily remove all of that unsightly rust that forms on garden furniture over time.

Hope you guys enjoyed this post. What other ketchup hacks do you know of? Please leave your feedback. I look forward to reading your feedback and comments.

Many parents have lost their job during the pandemic. Sadly, that shows no sign of stopping. Your donation can bring relief to the millions worried about where their next meal will come from. 11 Ingenious Household Hacks With Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Last week I shared with you ingenious hacks with household products. Today I want to share with you 11 amazing and ingenious household hacks with Coca-Cola. Besides drinking this caffeinated beverage, you can use this item as a cleaning product.

1. Clean Toilet Bowl

Do you have pesky stains in your toilet bowls? The fizzy drink can actually remove hard-to-clean stains on the inside of a toilet bowl. Just pour cola directly onto the stains themselves or cover the entire inside of the bowl by putting cola into a spray bottle and spraying on a light coating. Now let the cola sit for several hours to improve its effectiveness. Before flushing, use a toilet brush to scrub away the stains and flush. To disinfect, you will just need to use a disinfectant cleaner.

2. Remove Stains From Clothing

Coca-Cola has grease-busting abilities, too, thanks to the phosphoric acid in the drink. All you need to do is pop open a can of cola and pour it in with your laundry, along with the normal dose of detergent and run a wash cycle. Want to fight even tougher stain? Simply, apply the cola directly to the stain and let it soak for up to 30 minutes before tossing it in a regular wash cycle.

3. Remove Rust From Metal

For large areas, just use a spray bottle. Using aluminum foil or a scouring pad, scrub the affected area, then rinse with water. If you’re using this on chrome, you definitely do not want to let it sit too long, or it can actually eat away at the finish. For rusted hardware or tools, place them in a cup or bowl of Coke overnight. In the morning, you may still need to scrub with a wire brush to remove any stubborn rust stains. When finished, rinse with warm water and wipe away any remaining rust with a wash cloth.

4. Remove Backed-On Grease From Pots and Pans

Coca-Cola has amazing effectiveness as a grease remover. Hence, you can use cola to help remove baked-on grease from your pots and pans. Just add a can of Coca-Cola on your greasy pans to it and sit it on a burner on low heat. Leave it for 30 minutes to an hour, then remove from heat and sit it on a burner on low heat. Leave it for 30 minutes to an hour, then remove from heat. Use a scouring pad to scrub away the grime. This method can be used to remove foods which have stuck during cooking, such as rice, pasta or eggs, but it will still require a little elbow grease with a scouring pad to lift the worst of the stains.

You can also use the same steps for cleaning baking pans. However, instead of heating the baking pan itself, heat the Coke in a pot, pour the heated soda into the pan, scrub and rinse.

5. Remove Burnt-On Grease From Stove Tops

Burnt-on grease makes your stove top unattractive and less efficient, but typical cleaners don’t usually work to remove grease that has been burnt onto the surface. Remove heating coils and grease catchers from electric stoves. For gas stoves, remove metal grills and cover gas heating elements well with newspaper and masking tape to avoid getting anything in them. Sprinkle baking soda and let it seat for 10 minutes and scrub away. For any remaining stain spray Coca-Cola and let it sit for 10-20 minutes before scrubbing away. The chemicals in the cola will loosen all the burnt-on bits, allowing you to scrub away most of the blackened areas and save you from having to replace these costly items.

6. Use As Pest Control

If your porch looks like a slug convention every night during the spring and summer, consider placing a small bowl of Coca-Cola out there from time to time. The sugar in the soda will attract slugs and snails while the acid will kill them. A cup of Coke also can be used to lure wasps, which then drown in the liquid. You can even get rid of an anthill by liberally dousing the area with Coke.

7. Car Battery Care

Source – waynesgarage.com/tips/more-tip/battery-cables

Excessive corrosion buildup on a car battery’s terminals can cause problems when trying to start the vehicle, but Coca-Cola can remove corrosion from battery terminals quite effectively. Simply crack open a can and carefully pour over the terminals. After letting it sit for a few minutes, use a toothbrush to scrub the corrosion away. Remember to rinse the terminals with some warm water to get rid of any residual Coke.

Coke can also be used to defrost a frozen windshield, and a liberal amount of cola poured over the windshield and bumper can help remove bugs and road debris. Always rinse with clean water to avoid damaging the car’s paint job.

8. Restore Shine to Coins

Coins and jewelry that have started to gather an unsightly tarnish can be cleaned with nothing more than a can of Coke. Simply drop the grimy coins in a Coke bath and leave them overnight. In the morning, pour the Coke down the drain, rinse the coins in warm water and pat them dry.

9. Remove Oil Stains

When motor oil drips onto driveways and garage floors, it leaves an unsightly stain that’s tough to remove with ordinary cleansers. That’s where a little Coke comes in handy. Pour a liberal amount of room-temperature cola over the stain, let it bubble and soak for for several hours (or overnight). then hose clean. Cola isn’t the only household item that can handle pavement oil stains either; dish soap or kitty litter will do the trick, too.

10. Remove Bugs from Windshield

You might need a can of Coke to help get rid of the droves of bugs that clearly targeted your windshield. That’s right, Coke can cut through those impossible-to-remove, caked-on bug remains from your car’s windshield. Lightly pour Coke on the parts of your windshield you intend to clean, let it sit for a minute and wipe away with a wet washcloth. However, don’t let it sit for a long time. You risk it damaging your car’s paint job. But in a pinch, Coke works wonders on bugs stuck on your windshield and bumper, if you’re careful.

11. Boost Your Compost Pile

Coke can help improve your compost pile. Add one can of soda each week to your compost; the sugar in the cola feeds beneficial microorganisms, and the cola increases the acidity of the pile, helping material decay faster.

My dear lovelies! Hope you find the above tips helpful. I would love to know about your ingenious hacks with Coca-Cola. I am looking forward to you comments and feedbacks.

Great Hacks for Household Items – Part Two

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Yesterday, I talked to your about part one of great hacks of household items. Today I will talk to you about part two of ingenious hacks for household items.

Ingenious Hacks Part One

1. Safety Pin

These mini metal marvels do more than keeping clothes together. It can also prevent static cling. To keep your skirt rom sticking to your tights or pantyhose, or your work pants from grabbing your silky socks, attach a small safety pin to the inside of your slip, skirt lining or the hem of your slacks. The metal is good conductor of electricity, so it will divert static away.

2. Buttons

Give the strays in your swing stash something fun to do. Are your bath towels all one color? To cut down on post-shower confusion (and unnecessary loads of laundry), sew a different colored button on the corner of each towel, then assign each family member a shade to use, a perfect way to I.D. towels.

3. Chopsticks

Sure they are perfect for kung pao chicken, but these handy utensils have loads of clever uses. One example is control portion. If you’re not as handy with chopsticks as you are with forks, switching to these utensils at meal time promotes slower eating and smaller bites. Research shows this gives your stomach time to send satiety signals to your brain, so you eat less in the long run.

4. Coffee Filters

When they are not holding grounds, these paper liners have other powers. It’s called keeping your crudités crisp. Slicing fresh veggies in bulk makes for easy snacking. The downside to that is that they can go soft faster than when whole. Hence, to keep them crunchy, store carrots and celery sticks in a container lined with coffee filters to help absorb moistures.

5. Spaghetti

These pasta strands can handle more than just dinner. They can make a great centerpiece as well. Just top your dinner table with a wheat-like decoration. Bundle a few pounds of dry spaghetti together with a rubber band, fan out the top and the bottom by twisting the ends clockwise, then knot a thick ribbon around the center.

I hope you find this post help. I would love to know about your ingenious hacks of household items. I look forward to seeing your feedbacks and comments.

Great Hacks for Household Items – Part One

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Have ever used a routine household item for something it’s not intended for? No? Then you are in the right place. If you have you are still in the right place. Today I will talk to you about part one of ingenious hacks for household items.

Ingenious Hacks Part One

1. Toothpaste

Toothpaste is one of the most essential household items we all have in our bathrooms. However, did you know that toothpaste is also a great ingredient to polish jewelry? All you have to do is rub toothpaste onto your rings, necklaces, and earrings with a soft brush to remove buildup on your bling. Then just rinse well with warm water. Don’t use this technique on delicate items or pearls.

2. Corks

The bubbly in your pantry or wine collection may be gone, but the fun has just began. You can create a personalized stamp by drawing a design something like a leaf, a stark, or even your initial, onto the clean end of a wine or champagne cork. Carve it out with a utility knife, cutting to about 1/8″ deep. To use, press the finished stamp onto a ink pad or brush with paint.

3. Paper Clips

Have paper clips at home? Give this office essentials a break from all that pesky paperwork. Prevent paper tabs on your teabag from slipping into the hot water by weighing it down with a small paper clip. Dangle it over the side of the mug until you remove the bag. No more fishing out the tea bag.

4. Olive Oil

Have Olive oil in your pantry? No need to waste a drop! Get creative with this cooking staple, and use it in your beauty routines. Just sub it for shave cream. In a pinch, lightly coat legs with olive oil and your razor will run effortlessly over stubble (it conditions your razor blades too!).

5. Tennis Ball

Tennis ball at home lost their bounce. No need to toss them once they have lost their bounce. Use it to keep bike upright instead. Parking a bicycle on a grass, pebbles or an uneven sidewalk can be tricky, especially if your kickstand is a little wobbly. For better balance, poke a hole in the tennis ball and slip it on to the bottom of the kickstand.

I hope you find this post help. Come back tomorrow for part 2 of ingenious hacks. I look forward to seeing your feedbacks and comments.

The Ever Changing Work Environment

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Do you get up in the morning, get dressed up and drive to work everyday? The chances are you are among the 35% whose work environment changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, I will talk to you about the ever changing work environment.

Work Environment Before COVID

Work

Before this global pandemic swept the world and upheaved our lives, only 7% of civilian workers in the US or around 9.8 million of this nation’s 140 million civilian benefits had some sort of telework benefits, according to the PEW Research. Those who had access to that privileges were largely managers, other white-collar professionals, and the highly paid. If you are not part of the group, the odds are that you wake up in the morning everyday, get dressed, and endure long commute to start your workday.

Telework, or working remotely, was a benefit available mostly in the private sectors than in the state or local government. According to the Phew Research group, about 7% of private sector workers, and 4% of local and state government workers have access to telework benefits. Their date does not include the federal government, the country’s largest employer with about 2.9 million civilian workers.

However, majority of us had to go to work everyday. Some jobs such as restaurant servers, plumbers, electricians, stylists, grocery workers, delivery men/women, police officers, healthcare workers by nature are difficult or impossible to do away from the standard worksite. Nevertheless, you are more likely not to have the privilege of working remotely.

Work Environment Since COVID-19

work

Major public health measure placed to combat the pandemic has been social distancing, leading to more people working from home, while kids joining school remotely. You may have guessed that the number of people working from home since the pandemic has increased to 50%. However, according to the Atlantic, 21% of Americans were still teleworking as of March 2021, while other 79% were leaving home like the old days. At it’s highest point, about 35% American were teleworking while the number dropped to only 13.4% in the final days of summer. This is mostly due to the availability of the vaccine.

Nonetheless, what the pandemic taught us is many jobs that were not thought to be feasible done without loss of productivity are being done from home, or at least it’s very much feasible. Whether you are seeing your doctor virtually, or doing virtual conferences, applications like Zoom, Google Hangout, Microsoft Team, or WebEx, working remotely has become more feasible.

So how will the work environment change due the pandemic, moving forward? Only time will tell. According to the World Economic Forum, two-thirds of people around the world want to work flexibly when the COVID-19 pandemic is over, while almost a third are prepared to quit their job if the boss makes them go back to the office fulltime. The need for flexibility was strongest among women, parents of school are children, adults under 35 and those with higher level of education and income. Finally, 64% workers in 29 countries said that they are more productive with a flexible work schedule, and only a third complained of burn out.

Since the pandemic, tech companies such as Microsoft, Twitter, Square, Spotify, Shopify, and Amazon are increasingly adopting extended work-from-home policies. Facebook is allowing certain employees to working remotely full time. According to CNBC article from March 2021, vaccinated or not, more than half of employees said that, if given the option, they would want to keep working from home even after the crisis from the pandemic subsides.

Whether we work on site, remotely, or have a hybrid work schedule, the way we view the work environment have changed since the pandemic started. What COVID has taught has that life is short and we need flexible job environment and will be productive and allow us to take care of ourselves and priorities. The emphasis on work-life balance has increased. However, you don’t build the same connection you would seeing your co-workers face-to-face than working remotely. CAUSES CLOSE TO MY HEART

PLEASE DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE ORGANIZATIONS THROUGH MY FUNDRAISING LINKS:

I consider myself fortunate to have good health, a full-time job, and a roof over my head. However, there are still so many people who are struggling to put food on their tables. Please join me to help those who are struggling. If you have good health, full-time jobs, and a roof over your head, please join me to help those who are struggling. Whether you donate $5 or $500, you will make a huge difference in someone’s life.

No Kid Hungry:

America’s kids need us. The coronavirus is closing schools nationwide, and millions of vulnerable children are losing the school meals they depend on. For some, it’s the only food they’ll receive on a given day. We have a plan to feed kids, but we need your help today to continue our work to ensure every kid gets three meals a day. You can click above to donate to my gofundme page donation going directly to the organization, or you can click on the direct link to the site.

Food Bank of Maryland:

PLEASE DONATE ANY AMOUNT YOU CAN AND SHARE THE POST WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW.

Manna Food Center, a nonprofit organization, strives to eliminate hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Millions of children go to bed hungry in America every year, sadly it’s worse now! Today, 14 million children regularly miss meals — three times more than during the Great Recession and five times more than before the pandemic.

Many parents have lost their job during the pandemic. Sadly, that shows no sign of stopping. Your donation can bring relief to the millions worried about where their next meal will come from. It’s even worse for Latino and Black families, whose rates of nutrition insecurity have spiked to 25% and 30%. In the world’s wealthiest country, this is unconscionable.

Even before the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated 37 million people in America struggled with hunger and nutrition. The Centers for Disease Control reports 76% of people killed by COVID-19 had at least one underlying condition, most of which were diet-related. Diet-related diseases also fuel skyrocketing health care costs, which rose from 5% to 28% of the federal budget in the past 50 years.

Let’s make the world better, kinder, brighter. Every dollar you give will create real change. $1 will feed 5 hungry children here in the US, but $1,000 will feed 50,000 starving children overseas. Be the good in the lives of many by giving right now.

Why Does My Face Break Out With Rashes So Easily?

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today, I want to talk to you about something that has been bothering me for the past 4 months at a higher rate than before. It is have breaking out in red and extremely itchy rashes every easily. It’s called dermatitis.

What is Contact Dermatitis – Rashes?

rashes

According to the Mayo Clinic, contact dermatitis is red, itchy rashes caused by direct contact with a substance or an allergic reaction to it. The rashes are not contagious or life-threatening, but they can be very uncomfortable. Many substances can cause such reactions, including soaps, cosmetics, fragrances, jewelry, and plants.

Symptom of Contact Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis usually occurs on areas of your body that have been directly exposed to the reaction-causing substance — for example, along a calf that brushed against poison ivy or under a watchband. The rash usually develops within minutes to hours of exposure and can last two to four weeks. Other symptoms include,

  • A red rash
  • Itching, which may be severe
  • Dry, cracked, scaly skin
  • Bumps and blisters, sometimes with oozing and crusting
  • Swelling, burning or tenderness

When I first had contact dermatitis, it started out at red, extremely itchy rashes on my cheeks and nose. The biggest I made was use light acne medicine. The rashes turned into burning and itchy crusting. The rash is so uncomfortable that I was losing sleep and was distracted from my daily activities. It was then I realized I needed to go to a dermatologist, given that I did not change my skincare routine before that.

Causes of Dermatitis

Contact dermatitis is caused by a substance you’re exposed to that irritates your skin or triggers an allergic reaction. The substance could be one of thousands of known allergens and irritants. Some of these substances may cause both irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis. Rashes are common symptoms.

Irritant contact dermatitis is the most common type. This nonallergic skin reaction occurs when a substance damages your skin’s outer protective layer.

Some people react to strong irritants after a single exposure. Others may develop signs and symptoms after repeated exposures to even mild irritants. And some people develop a tolerance to the substance over time.

Common irritants include:

  • Solvents
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Bleach and detergents
  • Shampoos, permanent wave solutions
  • Airborne substances, such as sawdust or wool dust
  • Plants
  • Fertilizers and pesticides

What I suffered from each time is was allergic dermatitis. Allergic dermatitis occurs when a substance to which you’re sensitive (allergen) triggers an immune reaction in your skin. It usually affects only the area that came into contact with the allergen. But it may be triggered by something that enters your body through foods, flavorings, medicine, or medical or dental procedures (systemic contact dermatitis).

One may become sensitized to a strong allergen such as poison ivy after a single exposure. Weaker allergens may require multiple exposures over several years to trigger an allergy. Once you develop an allergy to a substance, even a small amount of it can cause a reaction.

Common allergens include:

  • Nickel, which is used in jewelry, buckles and many other items
  • Medications, such as antibiotic creams and oral antihistamines
  • Balsam of Peru, which is used in many products, such as perfumes, cosmetics, mouth rinses and flavorings
  • Formaldehyde, which is in preservatives, disinfectants and clothing
  • Personal care products, such as deodorants, body washes, hair dyes, cosmetics and nail polish
  • Plants such as poison ivy and mango, which contain a highly allergenic substance called urushiol
  • Airborne substances, such as ragweed pollen and spray insecticides
  • Products that cause a reaction when you’re in the sun (photoallergic contact dermatitis), such as some sunscreens and oral medications

Preventive Measures I Take:

I try to be extra careful about what I put on my skin. I use gentle cleansers and moisturizers. I also try to look for clean products when it comes to makeup and skincare products. I try to identify and avoid substances that irritate your skin or cause an allergic reaction and rashes. I use a mild, fragrance-free soap and warm water, and rinse completely. I also wash any clothing or other items that may have come into contact with a plant and other allergens. Additionally, due to my severe allergy to dust mites, I wear mask when cleaning and furnitures, and home. I also regularly applying moisturizing lotions can help restore your skin’s outermost layer and keep your skin supple.

Treatments

Each time I had allergic dermatitis, I was treated with steroid cream and prednisone. Steroid cream are topically applied creams or ointments help soothe the rashes of dermatitis. A topical steroid may be applied one or two times a day for two to four weeks. Oral corticosteroids are given in severe cases to reduce inflammation, antihistamines to relieve itching or antibiotics to fight a bacterial infection.

The step for me is to go to the dermatology office to do a patch test to see if I am allergic to something. This test can be useful if the cause of the rashes isn’t apparent or if the rash recurs often, which is my case.

During a patch test, small amounts of potential allergens are applied to adhesive patches, which are then placed on the skin. The patches remain on the skin for two to three days, during which time the back is needed to kept dry. The doctor then checks for skin reactions under the patches and determines whether further testing is needed.

My dear beautiful lovelies! Hope you find this post is helpful. I would love to know if you have experienced dermatitis and how did you manage it.
