My Favorite Way to Clean Sneaker Rubber

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today, I will share with you my favorite way to clean the rubber on my sneakers.

Cleaning The Rubber on My Sneakers

Don’t you hate the dirty rubbers on your sneakers? It’s disgusting, and unpleasant to look at. I just hate going out with dirty rubbers on my sneakers. What do I do to fix the issue? Well for lightly dirty rubber on my sneakers. I just use an eraser to erase the dirt away. I do this often without letting the dirt accumulate.

What About the Very Dirty Sneakers?

Baking Soda and Laundry Detergent Solution

Well according to wikiHow, just use your brush to apply the combination of baking soda and laundry detergent to the rubber portion of your shoes, then scrub it in. Using a circular motion with the brush is often the most effective way to remove dirt and grime. However, just remember before applying the baking soda and laundry detergent to the rubber portion, just use a brush to remove the loose dirt first.

Nail Polish Remover

The second option is nail polish remover. Yes, you heard me right. If it can remove nail polish, I don’t see why it can’t remove scuff marks and dirt off of white rubber soles. Simply soak a few cotton balls with a generous amount of nail polish remover, and scrub the white rubber soles of any shoes until they look nice and white. They’ll look brand new! Simply soak a few cotton balls with a generous amount of nail polish remover, and scrub the white rubber soles of any shoes until they look nice and white. Trust me, they’ll look brand new! However, DO NOT use nail polish on the canvas or fabric part of shoes because that might cause discoloring.

My dear lovelies! I would love to know your methods for cleaning the rubbers of your sneakers. Please comment below.

I consider myself fortunate to have good health, a full-time job, and a roof over my head. However, there are still so many people who are struggling to put food on their tables. Please join me to help those who are struggling. If you have good health, full-time jobs, and a roof over your head, please join me to help those who are struggling. Whether you donate $5 or $500, you will make a huge difference in someone’s life.

No Kid Hungry:

America’s kids need us. The coronavirus is closing schools nationwide, and millions of vulnerable children are losing the school meals they depend on. For some, it’s the only food they’ll receive on a given day. We have a plan to feed kids, but we need your help today to continue our work to ensure every kid gets three meals a day. Manna Food Center, a nonprofit organization, strives to eliminate hunger in Montgomery County through food distribution, education, and advocacy. Millions of children go to bed hungry in America every year, sadly it’s worse now! Today, 14 million children regularly miss meals — three times more than during the Great Recession and five times more than before the pandemic.

Many parents have lost their job during the pandemic. Sadly, that shows no sign of stopping. Your donation can bring relief to the millions worried about where their next meal will come from. It’s even worse for Latino and Black families, whose rates of nutrition insecurity have spiked to 25% and 30%. In the world’s wealthiest country, this is unconscionable.

Even before the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture estimated 37 million people in America struggled with hunger and nutrition. The Centers for Disease Control reports 76% of people killed by COVID-19 had at least one underlying condition, most of which were diet-related. Diet-related diseases also fuel skyrocketing health care costs, which rose from 5% to 28% of the federal budget in the past 50 years.

Let’s make the world better, kinder, brighter. Every dollar you give will create real change. $1 will feed 5 hungry children here in the US, but $1,000 will feed 50,000 starving children overseas. Be the good in the lives of many by giving right now.

Creating a Positive Mindset

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today I will talk to you about how you can turn your brain to positive thinking and creating a positive mindset.

Brain Recap From Last Post

photo of head bust print artwork

As I have mentioned in my previous post our brains are wired to think negatively. Additionally, our body is made up of different types of chemicals. Some of which are good, some are not so good. Chemicals, including dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin, are “happy” chemicals. They are responsible for creating a sense of pleasure or satisfaction. On the other hand, chemicals such as cortisol surges to connect all the neurons active at a single moment, causing the feeling of pain. It motivates you to focus on the cause of the release and work to make it stop. Unfortunately, this comes at the cost of not noticing much else except the solution to stop the pain or discomfort.

Retrain Your Brain

Despite the negativity that our brain fosters, we can retain it to be more positive. There are methods you can use to do this. Every day, spend dedicated time looking around specifically for positives. This helps to retrain your brain, making it look for positives in the same way it looks for negatives. I set aside 5 minutes in my calendar to do this. Just as stretching and movement are needed in our life, so is our brain health. Challenging situations and obstacles are a part of life. When you’re faced with one, focus on the good things no matter how small or seemingly insignificant they seem. If you look for it, you can always find the proverbial silver lining in every cloud. If you find yourself thinking negatively, stop and think about where you would find yourself if you turned 180 degrees from this way of thinking.

Additionally, take the time to let people know that you are recognizing positives, no matter how recent they are. This could mean taking time and saying thank you to the co-worker that helped you on a project or your loved ones for their support. Just perform small acts of kindness that will help other people. Helping others or making others feel good will boost your own positivity.

Furthermore, take the time to practice self-love. As I have mentioned before, we tend to become our worse enemy and our biggest critics. So, just take the time to become your own ally. Stop comparing yourself to others. There’s just no point in comparing yourself to anyone else in this world because there’s only one you. Instead, focus on yourself and your journey. The shift of energy, alone, will help you feel free. Similarly, stop worrying about what others think of you. You can’t make everyone happy, so this is a waste of time and will only slow you down on your journey to being the best you. Additionally, no one is perfect. Embrace your mistakes and learn from them. The lesson learned from your mistakes is priceless. We humans grow and evolve over time. Use your mistake to grow and learn to be your positive self. Just remember the following quotes:

Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.

— Christopher Germer

Self-care is not selfish or self-indulgent. We cannot nurture others from a dry well. We need to take care of our own needs first, so that we can give from our surplus, our abundance. When we nurture others from a place of fullness, we feel renewed instead of taken advantage of.

— Jennifer Louden

Finally, just focus on the present moment. Don’t dwell on the past or the future. The present is what we can control in our lives. Just go with the flow. Acknowledge the negative and move on. By practicing being in the moment and making a habit of it – you stop your subconscious mind from doing the driving. Having your conscious mind drive decisions will help you to focus your thoughts towards a more positive, balanced approach. Ask yourselves: what you can do right now? What you are grateful for at the moment, and what you can do to give someone else happiness right now. As the global pandemic taught us tomorrow is not promised to anyone. So, be in the present and train your brain to be positive and self-loving. You will be amazed by the result.

Hope you enjoyed this post. I would love to know how you keep yourself positive. What works and what doesn’t ? I look forward to your comments.

How Negativity Affects the Brain

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today, I will talk to you about our brain’s role in negative thoughts and how negativity affects the brain.

Our Brains Love Negativity

Have you noticed even through a sea of compliments, our minds only focus on one or two critics? Well, our brain is doing that. Research shows that our brains evolved to react much more strongly to negative experiences than positive ones. It kept us safe from danger. But in modern days, where physical danger is minimal, it often just gets in the way. As a result, we are often our own worst enemies. It’s called the negativity bias.

Our Brain and Negativity Bias

Photo by Nathan Cowley on Pexels.com

The neurological roots of the negativity bias—first identified by psychologists Paul Rozin and Edward Royzman in 2001—started long before that. In Dr. Rick Hanson’s book on this topic, Hardwiring Happiness: The New Brain Science of Contentment, Calm, and Confidence, he wrote that humans share ancestors with “bats, begonias, and bacteria that go back at least 3.5 billion years.” According to Dr. Hanson, over hundreds of millions of years, it was a matter of life and death to pay extra attention to dangers and predators, react to them intensely, remember them well, and over time become even more sensitive to them. Researches found that bad experiences are almost always stronger than good—and the way we take in that information shapes how we see ourselves. Research shows that while our brains might process everything our eyes see, the mind might never become aware of it. Your focus and your attention are the keys to the information processing that filters what goes on in the conscious mind.

grayscale photography of woman touching her eyes

When we focus on negative things, we actually reshape our perception into seeing negative things. You might be so focused on counting all the negative events in your life that you entirely miss the positive gorilla that’s in the frame. Not only does negative stimuli trigger more neural activity, but research shows negativity is detected more quickly and easily. The amygdala—the brain region that regulates emotion and motivation—uses about two-thirds of its neurons to detect bad news, Hanson wrote. Hence, two-thirds of your motivation regulator is designed to focus on negativity. That seems problematic. Also, economic studies have shown people are more likely to make financial and career decisions based not on achieving something good but on avoiding something bad.

So, how do we overcome the negativity bias, come back next Sunday for more information? I would love to know about your experience with negativity bias. I look forward to reading your comments and feedback.

COVID 19

The Dire COVID-19 Update

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today I want to talk to you about the current dire COVI9-19 update.

COVID-19

COVID-19

Twenty-two months ago, the COVID-19 pandemic swept the world and upended our lives. Our sense of normalcy has forever changed. When things couldn’t get we saw the amazing result of people working together and coming up with not one but 4 different vaccines: Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines, Johnson & Johson, and Astra Zeneca in less than a year from the start of the deadliest pandemic in over a century. With the increase in vaccination, we saw a decline in cases until the beginning of the delta variant.

COVID-19 Delta Variant

Photo by Anna Shvets on Pexels.com

According to Yale Univesity, first identified in India in late 2020, the Delta variant swept rapidly through that country and Great Britain before reaching the U.S., where it quickly surged. It was, until mid-December, the predominant SARS CoV-2 variant, accounting for more than 99% of COVID-19 cases (at the time) and leading to an overwhelming increase in hospitalizations in some states. Delta is believed to be more than twice as contagious as previous variants, and studies have shown that it may be more likely than the original virus to put infected people in the hospital. People who are not vaccinated are most at risk, and the highest spread of cases and severe outcomes are happening in places with low vaccination rates. Delta was spreading 50% faster than Alpha, which was 50% more contagious than the original strain of SARS-CoV-2.

COVID-19 Omicron Variant and Current COVID-19 Epidemiology

According to the Centers for Disease Controls (CDC), the Omicron variant likely will spread more easily than the original SARS-CoV-2 virus and how easily Omicron spreads compared to Delta remains unknown. CDC expects that anyone with Omicron infection can spread the virus to others, even if they are vaccinated or don’t have symptoms. Currently, Omicron is the prominent variant circulating in the US. In the US, 61.9 million Americans have been infected with the COVID-19 virus. Just on January 10, 2022, there were 1.43 million new COVID-19 infections. The current 7-day average is 777k infections per day. Globally 311 million people have been infected with the virus with 5.5 million deaths. In the United States, the death toll is more than 839,000, which is more than the death toll of the Spanish flu of 1918.

Vaccination

As mentioned by the CDC, current vaccines are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalizations, and deaths due to infection with the Omicron variant. However, breakthrough infections in people who are fully vaccinated are likely to occur. With other variants, like Delta, vaccines have remained effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and death. The recent emergence of Omicron further emphasizes the importance of vaccination and boosters. Vaccines remain the best public health measure to protect people from COVID-19, slow transmission, and reduce the likelihood of new variants emerging.

This is what the CDC says about the vaccine:

  • COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalizations, and death.
  • Scientists are currently investigating Omicron, including how protected fully vaccinated people will be against infection, hospitalization, and death.
  • CDC recommends that everyone 5 years and older protect themselves from COVID-19 by getting fully vaccinated.
  • CDC recommends that everyone ages 16 years and older get a booster shot after completing their primary COVID-19 vaccination series.  You are eligible for a booster at 5 months after completing Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, 6 months after completing Moderna primary series, and 2 months after the initial J&J/Janssen vaccine. Individuals ages 16-17 are only eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

My dear lovelies! The situation with the pandemic is dire right now. It has had caused a lack of an essential workforce. If we want to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us, we will have to do our part by making sure that we are all vaccinated and boosted. We should not have to lose our loved ones to the horrible pandemic. I am urging you if you have not been vaccinated yet, please get the COVID-19 vaccine. If it has been more than 6 months since your 2nd mRA vaccines or 2 months since your J&J/Astra Zeneca vaccines, please get the booster if available. If you live in the US go to vaccine.gov to find a vaccine site near you. Please urge your loved ones to do the same. Finally please wear at least a surgical mask.

Please let me know in the comment below your feedback. I look forward to reading your comments and feedback.

Being Your Own Worst Critic

Hi there my beautiful lovelies! Hope you guys are doing well and staying safe. Today I will talk to you about how we are our own biggest critics. Learn about being your own worst critic and reasoning behind it.

We Are Our Biggest Critics

In our lives, we are our biggest critics. At one point or another, we have all experienced self-doubt. We have been quick to doubt ourselves, our abilities, and blame ourselves for not being good enough. So often we set the bar so high for ourselves that it’s impossible to reach. I know and you know we have done that at some point in our lives. The ever-popular social media does not help either. Whether Tiktok, Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube we have often compared ourselves to the images and lives see and amplified our shortcomings.

Well, our brain is doing that.  Research shows that our brains evolved to react much more strongly to negative experiences than positive ones. It kept us safe from danger. But in modern days, where physical danger is minimal, it often just gets in the way. As a result, we are often our own worst enemies. Whether it’s grades, work, or even life, our conscious self is violent and hostile. It tells are that we will not succeed because we are not good enough. Our internal self is full of doubts, restrictions, and blames. As a result, we become our own roadblock and our fears and doubts become our own self-fulfilling prophecy.

According to the Thrive Global website, when our own self-imposed high expectations cause us to turn on ourselves with nasty, self-deprecating words, it is then that we become our very own worst critics. We critique ourselves in so many ways that our entire world exists within this bubble we have created for ourselves. We hold ourselves to a high standard of perfection and when that standard fails to be met we replay the same words over and over again in our minds. Words like, “I’m not good enough”, “How could I be so dumb” “I never get it right” – which ultimately tear us down and make us believe lies that strip us of our self-worth and sabotage our progress and hinder our growth.

So why are we our own worst enemy and our worst critics? Well, come back for the next article to learn more about our brain’s role in negative thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed this post. I would like to know about your experience as being your own worst critics. I look forward to your comments and feedback.
